I was surprised when Katy went for such a calculated, sexual, me-too approach with this album. I thought she would continue to cultivate the singer-songwriter-ish charm that made her special in the first place. We don't need GaGa imitation.
Aside from literal differences--GaGa wouldn't use a children's choir and she rarely descends onstage later than anyone else--the only thing that sets Katy apart is her divaness. She made it all about her; despite the many other performers distracting the viewer, she was clearly set apart from everyone else. GaGa usually showcases her crew and lets them shine. In addition, I'd love for you to show me a Perry performance from the OOTB era that is as visual and poppy as this one. She used to be much more sparse. She used to be one with the band, and she had fun onstage, which let the audience have fun too. Now she's trying too hard to impress.

The acoustic opening? Lol Everyone does that once in a while. Shakira does it a lot. The literal fireworks? Who has never done fireworks in the stage?
Oh my... I dont see the GaGa imitation anywhere. I totally disagree in everything you say. GaGa for me is a very cult musical person and I totally picture her using a children's choir. How can you say Katy made it all about her? She used the children, the other dancers, the lyrics arent even about her, they are directed to everyone else.
And I'm not a Katy stan, I only like a few songs. I like GaGa more than I like her. The only reason I commented your comparison with Gaga is because it looks ridiculous to me. And it amazes me that people think GaGa influences every single thing nowadays.
