I have a friend who is signed to Capital Records and has told me that they are VERY VERY calculated with Katy Perry's every move.

Well she's right, Capitol IS very calculative, but so is Katy. She realizes that she is a product, just as every other major label singer is; the difference is that Capitol doesn't manufacture her, she, unlike a "puppet," manufactures herself. If that makes sense. I mean even EMI execs were shocked at how poppy Teenage Dream sounded when she presented it to them. She gets the final say in everything, she does the marketing, she chooses the singles, has been a part of every decision of her career, behind every single song, music video, album, doesn't have a 360 deal like other popstars, etc.
The point is she realizes she's a brand, but she is control of EVERYTHING.
