35. JAY-Z & KANYE WEST - ...IN PARIS
I was shocked at how much I loved the album this songs comes from - simply because I was expecting it to be an overhyped disaster (especially after the horrible H.A.M. & meh Otis lead singles). It was anything but. In an album full of amazing gems and magnificent artistic unison between two rap icons, this song is the standout, and radio agrees. The beat is cray, and Jay & Kanye's verses play off each other very well. The chorus is simple, repetitive & effective. Oh, & that beat at the end is amazing. Whoever produced it, bravo.
34. BRITNEY SPEARS - BIG FAT BASS (featuring will.i.am()
ATRLers, you all need to seriously stop the will.i.am hate. Yes, his new song T.H.E. is (hot) garbage, but most of his other work is not. His productions are usually fire, and this song agrees. With robotic vocals that gloss along smoothly with the bassious (yay for making up words!) beat, it serves its purpose to the fullest. It's a party song, so don't judge it like it's supposed to be some artistic statement - this song is stupid. The sooner you realize it, the more you'll actually enjoy it. It remains unknown why they let that flop Criminal "grace" the airwaves while this was still on the album.
33. BRITNEY SPEARS - UP N DOWN
I Wanna Go who? Hold It Against Me who? This song destroys them both, & it will be a true shame if this doesn't get a single release. It is ear candy from start to finish - and pop at its guiltiest of pleasures. The chorus is filled with short, memorable lines that literally go syllable by syllable - and. it. works. so. e. ffect. tive. ly. Plus, the verses are playful and teasing. While the song is safe and follows the same formula as everything else on Femme Fatale (the least experimental pop album of 2011), this song sums up the album in three minutes and thirty seconds - don't look any further into it. Enjoy.
32. CHRIS BROWN - LOOK AT ME NOW (featuring BUSTA RHYMES & LIL WAYNE)
I literally listened to this song on 1/1/11, so I've had a year to appreciate it now. I was shocked by it. I think this song shows just how much Chris has changed from the Exclusive days. He no longer limits himself to the r&b & pop genre, but experiments with hip-hop beats, and more gritty beats in general. It is my STRONG advice for him to please stop trying to rap (it's not good), but the rest of this song is amazing. With an AMAZING beat, a hot verse by Wayne, & one of the best rap verses of the year by Busta Rhymes, it's no wonder this is arguably the biggest urban hit of the year. I love that this song actually went Top 10 - especially seeing how un-pop it is. Best Chris Brown song since Forever.
31. AVRIL LAVIGNE - WISH YOU WERE HERE
I may not always show on ATRL, but I'm a huge Avril fan (except for that horrible album TBDT....ugggghhhh) & this is my favorite album by her. What makes this album so good is that it is like a relative to her first two; WTH & Smile aside, it's Avril reflecting on herself & singing about what's deeply personal to her. This song is one of the saddest, yet also catchiest, on the record. It doesn't sound like her old music, but a mix of everything she's done prior. I reccomend the acoustic version.
