Different strokes for different folks. As Rihanna stated a few weeks ago she's more about everyday looks and that's what inspires me. GaGa is more avant garde and her attires look more like costumes than anything that I wouldn't wear outside of Halloween and even that's pushing it. I said she's a fashion icon in that sense, but it's so hard to give her credit when much of her style is "inspired" or "borrowed". The problem I have with this list is they're saying GaGa is an icon but there's Bjork, Grace Jones, Roisin Murphy, Madonna, Cher, etc that have heavily inspired the chick. They mentioned Madonna, but where's everyone elses recognition. I honestly don't feel like GaGa has innovated too much of anything. That's my only problem. People act as if she's created these things when she has not. I know everything in fashion is borrowed, but borrow it and make it your own. I'm really not trying to bash her because I like her... slightly, but that's just my opinion.

I see where you are coming from, but none of that really matters when you consider it is all pretty subjective (as you stated, and I agree). Of course you wouldn't wear what Gaga wears to school, work, or a party. Neither would I. If I was high fashion model, then that is another story. A lot of people get this confused. Gaga is setting trends in the fashion world, and she is catching onto early trends (before they expand) as well. In terms of fashion, Gaga is usually ahead. The thing is fashion world pays attention to her. Anna Wintours didn't really object, and Gaga rocked Vogue..and she'll probably do it again.
On originality, Madonna's image was heavily borrowed from someone else on that list. You mention Rihanna, but her style was just as heavily influenced by Grace Jones (who should be #1 on this list) as well. Something doesn't have to be freshly created to make an impact. Avant garde fashion has been going on for years. Lady Gaga helped bring it to the forefront, which is why some people might assume she 'created' a lot of the styles. No, she is just that big enough to make it appear that way...but it is not entirely true. Though let's not forget Gaga has designed some of her own.
Your opinion though, and I would agree that Gaga is certainly not the most fashion forward person. #3 is too high up on the list, but they can never get these kind of lists right. Besides, Britney Spears is on their so some of the validity lessens.

A mess. How could designers be influenced by Gaga when Gaga is influence by the designers.
ie. the article said this:
was inspired by this:
But Gaga is just wearing a McQueen dress. So all the designers did was copy McQueen.
Sorry if I'm being too technical. I'm just wondering what you meant.

Okay, you don't just wear a designer outfit. McQueen was fond of Gaga because he loved how she looked in her clothes. She rocked it, a fact that some of you must deal with. If Gaga made the outfits look unwearable for models, then it wouldn't catch on and he would have had her wear his clothes. Your logic could be applied to everyone on this list. The designers are, of course, a huge contribution. Nonetheless, the people who wear it matter too. So no, they aren't just copying McQueen...McQueen's idea may not have caught on if were not for Gaga.
No need to apologize for being technical; the confusion is well understood
