Here in Brazil you stay 9 years in Elementary School and 3 in High School - in these you just study the basic subjects: Math, Portuguese, Geography, History, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English, well. After that, when you're about to turn 18, you go through an exam, and if you pass you can go to university.
I'm in university right now, I study Civil Engineering.

In the United States:
Elementary/primary school - Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th (depends on the area, some schools are K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, some are K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th)
Junior high/middle school - 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th (some schools are 7, 8, 9, some are 6, 7, 8, some are 6, 7, 8, 9)
High schools - 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th (some schools are 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, some are 10th, 11th, 12th)
Then after high school, there are many options:
*No school, straight to work
*(Community) college (tends to be a prerequisite to university but doesn't have to be)
*University (can be after college, doesn't have to be)
*Vocational school (where you can go to learn a specific craft)
There are many other options, too. The number of years you attend secondary school depends on what you're learning, but most require at least 2 years of education for any sort of degree.

I mean my college I applied to is a good school, but because I'm in-state it's not that bad. So maybe with some scholarships it won't be that bad.
Although, it's scary because I want to move to Florida in two years, but I'm going to be going to a four year school. I can always transfer, but Florida is 18 hours drive away from me and I have no idea what college I would transfer to

The University of Miami is a phenomenal university, definitely the best in Florida. Why are you in a hurry to move to Florida?

Community college is 2 years, but only gives you an associates degree.
College/university is 4 years and gives you a bachelor's.
After you get a bachelor's, you can go to grad school for a master's.
After you get a master's, you can get your PhD, and then you're a doctor

Well first you have Kindergaten, where you basically just learn to tie your shoes and take naps, tell time and write your name.
And in my case, Elementary school from 1st to 6th grade. Middle school for 7th and 8th grade. And High School for 9th to 12th grade. Everything else pretty much sounds the same.

Thanks everyone!
I don't think there's anything similar to community college here. You finish High School and then straight to University.
What's an associates degree? What do you learn on community college, by the way?

Wow, my guidance counselor is a moron. The FAFSA isn't due today
Good thing, I looked over my High School transcript because he listed the retired band teacher from my school as one of my parents/guardians
I swear with him as a Guidance Counselor, it will be a miracle if I make it into college.

Well, I live in this small town. Don't get me wrong, I have loved growing up here and will definitely miss my friends and having four seasons. However, the people here can be ****** and it's just so easy to get trapped in the little town.
And I don't want to be trapped in it for the rest of my life. I want to have the option of a career and most of my family lives in Florida and I want to be able to spend more time besides week long vacations with them.

Come to think of it, that's how college still is... Others hang out and go party, and I sit in my room listening to music.

I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but I'm going to try not to take advice from you because I would like to be socializing and breaking the ice if that's what my orientation night will be structured like.

Community college is only 2 years, so you don't take advanced classes. In university you move up to 300/400 level classes for your 3rd and 4th years. They don't have any of those at a community level. An associate's is a degree from a 2 year school (community college).
And you can study almost anything at community college. They have a wide assortment, just like a university. They don't have the more advanced ones, though.

You definitely don't want my advice.
I'd actually advise others to avoid being like me.

Associate Degrees are basically the lowest form of degree. They can be earned from Junior (Community) Colleges,Institutes, and Tech schools.People with service jobs like plumbing and electrical tend to go here.

There's nothing wrong with not partying though. Even though I will be going to a party school, I definitely won't be partying, which is why I'm going to live off campus. Luckily, I have some good friends of mine that already go to my college that don't party either, so I at least have friends until I make more friends that hopefully aren't party-goers/alcoholics.

I'm currently at a community college to get an associated and then I'm transferring to a bachelors program. I wouldn't necessarily say that community college doesn't have advanced classes, it all depends on your program really. I'm taking Microbiology, Immunology, Hematology, Clinical Chemistry, and Biological Fluids, and it isn't easy.
If you don't know what you want to do, as in my case, community college is nice because it's cheaper and it can help you find out what your interested in.

I go to the University of Central Florida, finishing up my first year. It's a party school though and I'm not really a party type of guy so I miss out on a lot of social interaction hahaha.

Cool. I plan on having a gap year then Uni. I think I'll do psychology but I'm not 100% sure. I'm going to a Higher Education conference where universities from across the country come together at Bolton next week so hopefully that will help. If not at least I'll get some free pens
What apprenticeship do you want to do?
