Irrelevant, all of it. That's not what being the voice of a generation is about. It's about touching a whole generation with your voice.

I know Adele just stands/sits there and sings, that's why this thread is about her voice and not her as an all-around entertainer.

These honorary titles are usually given to artists by someone else in the industry. So, no... I don't think Adele fits it. She still has to prove herself, like Aguilera did.

People don't run with something they don't believe in. The public still sees Christina as somewhat of the voice of our generation. If giving her that title didn't resonate with them, the media would've stopped calling her that as well.

Range doesn't determine whether you're a voice of a generation or not.

It is a sad truth that the entertainment industry primarily revolves around sex and sex appeal and as beautiful as her voice is people are going to get bored with her funeral style and lack of sex appeal although she has a beautiful face. She is quite a one dimensional artist, she will sing jazz and the blues and she will sing about depression and heartache and people get quite tired of that quite fast. She doesn't have an interesting personal life nor is she that inter sting as a person so I would say this level of fame will last 1-2 years if she is lucky. Artists need to adapt to survive and I don't think she will.
|
No. Her obesity has the same effect as Sex Appeal. The only difference is the Audience who pretentiously proclaim they listen to "Talent" (Quotes because that's the word they use) rather than "scantily dressed ****s" in order to present themselves as people who are enlightened beings with a mature sense of taste.

But to answer your question,
For some reason she has been placed in that category. I don't think she is the voice of our generation, but she's up there with some of the great great singers, for sure.
I think Jennifer Hudson, and even Leona Lewis, are better vocalists to be honest.

actually that is not true.. 21 has gotten negative reviews. Her score is in the high 70's... Kanye's album was in the 90's near perfect score for an album.. So don't get ahead of ourselves with all the critical praise. Her album has certainly been the most successful and influential one this year.

If the alternative is Xtina? Then yes.

Well, people obviously believed in it if they ran with it. Christina is obviously a respected voice... and overrated voice, but a respected one nonetheless. Honorary titles do not just come about, and it's not fans who give these musicians these titles; it's the folks in the media or music industry.

Amen. Xtina sucks technically in comparison to Adele, and Adele's vocals are very limited themselves.

What a transparent thread. But anyway, I sure hope & think Adele will soon join Aretha, Ella, Mariah, Whitney, Christina! She's on a VERY good track to become one of the voices of 2010s if not THE voice of the 2010s (if no one else appears on the scene)!

And no matter how much you try, your won't rewrite the history and deny Christina's accomplishments as the voice in the 2000s. And of course as the history proved countless times, 1 flop album doesn't mean an artist can't comeback.

People said "Rolling in the Deep" would be Adele's only hit, then comes along "Someone Like You."
There will always be a niche market for Adele when the mainstream success runs out.

Beyoncé is the Entertainer of Our Generation. Adele is the Voice of Our Generation.
I don't really see anyone else out there a better vocalist then Adele (Bey aside).

Absolutely. There's been endless back and forth over whether Christina is the "Voice of our Generation" (she's not), and I'm glad Adele came around to show what it actually means to hold that title.
It's a pretty huge deal to be called the voice of a generation. You better be firing on all cylinders.
Christina doesn't fire on all cylinders:
-Good voice, but misused to the point that Beyonce and Adele are now largely considered better vocalists
-Good voice, but apparently not good enough to keep Britney from destroying her sales
-Good voice, but not good enough to keep her from having to pull all sorts of ****ty stunts to keep up with Britney
-Good voice, but poor reviews (not a single album over 70 on Metacritic. Her "masterpiece" Stripped barely above Teenage Dream)
Adele fires on all cylinders:
-Good voice, and knows how to use it so that no one is considered better
-Good voice - in fact, so good that her voice alone has led her to outsell every single artist in terms of albums and singles, to take over radio, to score the biggest hit single in 25 years and what will be the biggest album since the height of music sales in 2000
-Good voice - in fact, so good that she needs no ****ty stunts to keep up with the likes of Katy, Gaga and Rihanna
-Good voice, and amazing reviews
The sheer power of Adele's voice and lyrics, and the emotion they evoke, have made her the biggest juggernaut the music industry has seen in over 10 years. She has it all - the best reviews, the most respect and the biggest sales. Christina never had that.
She is...The Voice of our Generation.
Edit: oh, and also, not a single person has said anything bad about her. In the indirectly shady words of Lady Gaga, "Adele is really sweet and lovely, and you rarely meet people like that in this industry."

Duca is clearly using Adele to bait the Christina fans, since they're celebrating her first #1 hit in a gazillion years.

It was all about facts, not my opinion. It could have come from someone who hates Adele or loves her.
