Not y'all trying to act like Julianne is the devil
Black face is offensive but what Julianne did isn't. She wanted to be fully in character. The only thing is as a celebrity she should have realized the face painting would get dragged by media. That's all. Otherwise, there's nothing wrong with her costume.
No one makes a big stink when Black people use reverse racism to make fun of white girls with no ass just for the hell of it. Racism is a two way street and black people aren't solely the victim. They've been throwing punches back over the past 30 years and no one says anything because it's justified due to slavery, black face and other racial prejudice in the US. Just because it's "revenge" doesn't make it acceptable.

It's cool we just have opposing views. I'm not offended whereas you are. I just understand where you're coming from but I don't feel the same way. It's allowed.

Are seriously comparing the systematic and legal oppression of black people to Black people calling a white girl flat? Go grab a history book before you speak on this subject. Don't let people school you, it's embaressing.

Are you serious?? You can't be serious, no one can be this ignorant??
Black people are getting discriminated against, killed, physically hurt EVERY DAY for simply being black. There was a famous case not too long ago I'm sure you know of and more recently, a black boy got arrested for trying to buy an item that cost $300 just because he looked like he couldn't afford it
White girls are mocked for being flat and going to Starbucks etc. all it results in is hurt feelings
Black/brown people are killed whereas white people's feelings are hurt. And you're trying to tell me its the same thing??

I personally don't find this whatsoever. I know how blackface can be seen as racist or controversial, but she wasn't portraying any type of racial stereotypes imo THE CHARACTER WAS BLACK. She was portraying a CHARACTER. She wasn't trying to make fun of black people whatsoever. White people can have an opinion on this I don't know why you're trying to clock them and punch them out this thread. They can tell what is offensive and what is not.. Some of you are probably are just acting like you're offended, when you're really not tbh.

But why, is that not a stereotype? I say, treat others how you want to be treated. If i didn't want people stereotyping me, I wouldn't stereotype other people.

What's the difference between these stereotypes, white girls have no ass or black guys are all criminals?
The first one is just a mean generalisation but the second gets people killed and accused of horrible things, ultimately ruining their life
It's not even remotely the same thing and you know it.

I'm not black, but I completely understand why this is offensive. I'm not sure how others don't comprehend the reason why it so. I also do not understand how reverse racism is being used as a defense. Any kind of racism is offensive and ignorant, one should not be used to discredit the other. And for those who say that blacks should just "get over it" must either be really young and not have any worldly experience or must either just be ignorant. Would you tell someone who is Jewish to just get over it if they were offended by someone dressed as Hitler just for a few laughs? Idk who this woman is but she is a moron. I'm betting she just wanted attention to jump start her (undoubtly) failing career. We learn history for a reason, and it shouldn't be disregarded.

She apologized.

I am a huge fan of the show Orange is the New black, actress Uzo Aduba, and the character she has created. It certainly was never my intention to be disrespectful or demeaning to anyone in any way. I realize my costume hurt and offended people and I truly apologize.

What I don't get is why she went in black face, which is NOT acceptable at all, when she clearly had a name tag on that stated who she was...

Thank you, I can't believe these people are really trying to defend this woman and her behavior. Do you all not know that Black face is the base of entertainment in America. Starting in the 1800's, White people would paint their faces black and perform in a disorderly and like animals as a way of entertainment for one another because that's how Blacks were viewed and in reality still are. One of the first radio programs was a black face (minstrel) program that depicted the lives of two black characters and all their troubles in life due to being black, ignorant and poor which is why their characters could never do anything right. This was listened to by 40 million people daily across America and this is what got entertainment started, the mockery of people who look like me and I don't find anything about it okay.
And of course her ass couldn't paint her face and be Michelle Obama or at least someone of a higher caliber, NO, her ass had to dress up as a incarcerated fool and that's funny to her. I hate how White people are able to just get away with anything and think nothing of their behavior when it comes to issues like this because no one cares. I'm so over America. I'm so over the world. Jesus take me.

It is a stereotype, but has absolutely no effect on white women because being flat is the norm, or was until very recently. It wasn't until the early 2000's, that big butts even became acceptable in the mainstream.
Just so you know, black women's figures, skin tones, hair and backsides were lampooned and reviled for centuries. So you don't want to talk about white women being mocked for their butts, because if that's the worst of it, they should feel lucky.
