I'm sorry but this is not to be discussed here. We should be respectful here of what has just happened to this poor man, and also discuss how we or others can help to fix this issue. This is not the place for petty fights.

Gay bullying and murders are nothing new, nor is the media attention on them.
There were books, plays and movies based on this famous incident:
Quote:
Shortly after midnight on October 6, 1998, Shepard met Aaron McKinney and Russell Henderson for the first time at the Fireside Lounge in Laramie, Wyoming.[7] It was decided that McKinney and Henderson would give Shepard a ride home.[8] McKinney and Henderson subsequently drove the car to a remote, rural area and proceeded to rob, pistol-whip, and torture Shepard, tying him to a fence and leaving him to die. According to their court testimony, McKinney and Henderson also discovered his address and intended to steal from his home. Still tied to the fence, Shepard, who was still alive but in a coma, was discovered 18 hours later by Aaron Kreifels, a cyclist who initially mistook Shepard for a scarecrow.[9]
Shepard had suffered fractures to the back of his head and in front of his right ear. He experienced severe brain-stem damage, which affected his body's ability to regulate heart rate, body temperature, and other vital functions. There also were about a dozen small lacerations around his head, face, and neck. His injuries were deemed too severe for doctors to operate. Shepard never regained consciousness and remained on full life support. While he lay in intensive care, candlelight vigils were held by the people of Laramie.[10]
Shepard was pronounced dead at 12:53 a.m. on October 12, 1998, at Poudre Valley Hospital, in Fort Collins, Colorado.

If you have nothing to back that opinion up, it doesn't contribute to the discussion. Did you read my response? Do you disagree with what I wrote? Or did you just react?

Enough. No I did not disagree with what you wrote. TBQH i didn't get what you meant in the ending, but ok. The fact that you're getting so angry over what I said surprises me. Gaga made situations worse. I'm pretty sure bullying HAS increased since she started bringing awareness to this and encouraging her gay fans to be more open about their sexuality. While I have no problem with it, a lot of close minded people in the world do, which is why I said what I did about Gaga/BTW and it being intertwined with the gay suicides/bullying rates going up. I just didn't express my opinion right. If you honestly want to have a deep discussion about the topic, we can. But all this "Please quit trying" and provoking questions are not needed.

Exactly.
And I really don't understand this argument, and I see it all the time on here. Gay people have been killed before, so we shouldn't talk about it or recognize those who are trying to do something about it now?

I am baffeled by this. How can someone have TOO much freedom in the first place and second of all if Gay people have too much freedom then it seems like the rest of the world must a huge surplus of freedom because we all know that in most places in the world Gay people are not given as much freedom and as many rights as straight people are

In some way, they do. But like someone said, the solution is not feeding Africa but showing them to fish.
My level of english is not that good to explain this, but the external debt of Africa is not written off but increasing, zero infrastructures, and the problem of industrial deslocalization (does 'deslocalization' even exist?) is bigger. Also, rich countries are interested in subjugate North Africa because of the natural resources.
If Lady Gaga donates some $million, she'll be helping someone, but not solving the problem or getting even a minimum close.

I mean, we really can't have a deep discussion about this if you're insisting that Gaga made things worse by encouraging people to be open with their sexuality.
People accepting themselves is a good thing. End of. I'm not willing to cede that point, so no, we can't discuss.

Are you saying the world would be better off if we asked all the gay people to hide who they really are? I cannot fathom why you would ask that of anyone

Why is it always LM that commit suicide? Gaga is such an advocate that you'd think it'd be the opposite.
Anyway ...
