Literally in what world are liberals as a collective espousing that all Islamic views are perfect and loving? I've not heard one say that there won't some cultural hang ups or that some won't be homophobic, but we've had immigration for centuries of any type of people and cultural backgrounds and we haven't been destroyed. There's not going to be some gang of every day refugees prowling the streets looking for gay people to toss off buildings, literally what are you talking about?
I mean if being homophobic or racist alone was enough to prevent people from living in a country that America would lose about half of its population.
There's no reason to immediately assume the refugees won't adapt, if they don't (which seems unlikely as they'll be grateful), then there's genuine reason for concern.

Muslims are some of the most devout members of their religion. So I think they will adapt only so much so there is some validity to his concerns. I think if there was enough Muslim influence caused by migration, then they absolutely would change social culture to support Islam. They've already changed a lot of laws in Michigan....all that benefit Muslims.

Western liberals act like immigration is soooo easy, but it's hard on both the immagrants themselves and the country accepting them.
Culture shock is HUGE. Don't underestimate it.
It's not even the Muslims fault though, is the thing. They've been raised in a society that values women less, is homophobic, and racist at least compared to western culture today.
Is it more important that these people be safe? Yes.
But we need to stop pretending like it's all going to be smooth sailing for these people. They have prejudices that have been taught to them because of where they came from, just like any culture.
I selectively agree. I think this is a bit of a far-fetched outlook on it, and I want all the people in countries controlled by the Islamic State to be safe, but I get what he's trying to say.
A lot of these people are migrating to European countries and they're not coming here with the expectancy of changing their culture regardless to that of their religion. Western culture is very different. If I were to find myself in a Muslim country, I'd be expected to attain myself to the culture of that country regardless of my religion, or lack of. I'm not being given a choice.
This does sound like an "I'm gay, I'm in the weakest link!" kind of thing as an appeal to remind the masses we're still a minority, which I guess comes across icky in his typing. But, the core of his argument is a fundamental issue.
The problem is that Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world, with the birth rate nearly doubling non-Islamic birth rates in many countries in Europe. What happens when Muslims become the majority? Laws would change to reflect the change in culture. That I think would be problematic.
I'm not saying all Muslims are bad. I'm Indian and we have one of the largest Islamic populations. I'm friends with and co-exist with a lot of Muslim people. Also, I'm not saying we shouldn't help Islamic people. But we can't ignore the fact that Islamic countries are some of the most repressive countries in the world and neither can we not discuss potential problems just to be politically correct.
I guess they'll have to adapt to American culture by being...just as ignorant? It may not be legal to do certain things here but that does not mean ignorance is not exactly in full force.

A government has a first and foremost obligation to its people, other countries people are irrelevant.
They should be fixing the problem though, allowing mass immigration just causes more problems. Fix the reason causing mass immigration

So perhaps we should also get rid of the 12 million Muslims who live in the U.S., many (if not most) of which happen to be citizens. Right? Ya know, just to be on the safe side.
There are 44 million Muslims living in Europe alone and about 2.77 million (0.9% of the U.S. population, 2010). These numbers will continue to grow bigger and bigger every year. What about those people living in these countries who are as citizens as much as you are. Just kick them out and don't accept them just because of their religion. That's stupid. Dare to say there isn't islamophobia.
Agree. The thing is that European culture has been progressing through ages and reached its highest level ever. What do you expect from Muslim immigrants whose countries are stuck in 16th century and don't want to develop socially (because of their strict and omnipresent religion)???
