Like somebody else said, the record was for the fans. People on here like to take the album of the decade promise out of context, but it was only intended for the fans to enjoy, and she even knew that generally, the public would not be here for it.
Which, I will say, is not really a smart choice for ensuring career longevity, given that ALL of her contemporaries are putting out music that is intended for the public, and it shows, because records like California Gurls and We Found Love were devoured like cotton candy. And a lot of people jumped off the bandwagon because they felt uncomfortable sticking with someone who was focusing on one side her fan base, the gay men, while completely blowing all the rest of them off (seemingly, because that may not really be the case, it's just how everyone is perceiving her behavior).
