Well, it could also be the face M.I.A. has always been a flop in the U.S. She was just lucky Pineapple Express used "Paper Planes" in their commercials, or it would've just been another flop for her too. I'd be surprised if anyone who doesn't regularly look up music news actually knows M.I.A. said anything about Lady GaGa.
M.I.A. doesn't make her music to be commercial & successful, she makes her music to impact society & make a statement. She makes music how she wants & frankly she doesn't care what other people think tbh. I must admit her music sounds like nothing else I've ever heard.

I think she's trying to make her music succesful now.
Before Paper Planes, she had never had anyone relevant on any of her songs but now it seems like she's jumping on the bandwagon by adding Nicki Minaj and Jay-Z to her songs.

Actually, she does. If I remember correctly, "Here We Go Again" went top 10 on U.S. iTunes. The only difference between the two is that Hollywood Records actually sends Selena Gomez's music to radio, while they neglect Demi Lovato almost entirely.

Yeah, "Here We Go Again" was a huge success for Demi. The Single peaked at number 15 on the Hot 100 and then number 8 on the iTunes chart...then the album debuted at number one with 108k! I really like Demi a lot more than Selena, so I hope she can get a good solid album, because Here We Go Again was honestly one of the best pop records I heard last year.
Seemed like it was stuck inbetween #40-60 forever. Hope it goes Top 20 soon
