This is an unfortunate blow to madonna's next era but I get it. Radio is a business and businesses cannot support or push things that don't return a profit. Fact is, madonna simply is not relevant to this generation of teens and so playing her is just illogical for a radio station aimed at young people. I wouldn't consider this ageist simply because if she was relevant to this generation then they would play her no matter her age. Maybe it's time for a reinvention?
Exactly. If the artist is able to connect with the radio station's core audience, they would play them. I suppose madonna has been unable to connect to their core audience this time around. This has less to do with her age and more to do with her not being relevant.
I agree. It has nothing to do with her age but the fact that younger audiences aren't into her and playing her music would potentially hurt their reputation with their audiences (who are the ones that they should be looking out for, not billionaire Madonna).
I wouldn't feel like including "Living for Love" in my playlist if it was up to me and while their reasons are unfair they're not really that unjustified.

You and Bang Up try so hard, it's embarrassing If she's so 'irrelevant' as you say, why are you so threatened?
Rebel Heart has had a positive critical response and healthy pre-order sales. Rebel Heart is a very good album. Making unfounded statements like it has nothing to do with age when the article is clearly stating it has to do with her age is blatant trolling.

Madonna isn't suited for BBC R1 anyway, I'm sure most Brits here will say the same.. idk which station would support her most but I'd start with Capital 95.8, and Heart 106.2 for her classic hits; I know they play Frozen, Papa etc quite a lot.

BBC Radio literally said "age has nothing to do" with their decision to remove her music hence my analysis leading me to believe it has to do with her "relevance" or lack of (as quoted by BBC Radio, not me).
It's not trolling just because you don't like the answer
The thing is is that this is how most teenagers think, unfortunately. They might secretly think Living For Love is a bop but they won't buy it because of Madonna's age. I know lots of people who won't even give older artists a chance, and its a shame because they are really missing out.
If it had been recorded by Katy or Rih or somebody it probably would have been huge and radios would have ate it up
Living For Love is actually kinda decent but I can totally see where they're coming from. It's their business to maintin listeners, so why give an artist spins if the audience isn't into it?

So, what you say is that no one over 40 years old can be RELEVANT or has made music good enough worthy to be RELEVANT. Because they never play anyone over that age. Especially female artists.
