If a Christian can be mayor, then a Muslim should be able to be one too. Both religions are basically identical. I wouldn't be happy about this if the Muslim elected was not liberal with his views, but Sadiq Khan voted for gay marriage.
I'm proud of the U.K today. This has sent a message around the world that the West is not your enemy, that the UK will not stand with the Donald Trumps' of this world, and that any British born Muslim has as much right to hold office as any other British born citizen. It sends a message to Pakistan that democracy is the way forward, and that the son of a bus driver can make it to the top political ranks based on a system of meritocracy as opposed to the backward system they've got in place right now.
This is a good day for not only the UK, but the world.
Also funny that the mayor of London won't be able to visit the US under Donald Trump's policies

Even the liberal Muslims won't be so eager to cling to their "liberalism", when they become a majority - my personal opinion. While younger generations will always be prone to going radical whenever they feel down in their lives. The difference between radical Islam and radical Christian beliefs is that Christian terrorism is virtually nonexistent.
You guys speak of liberal Muslims with Western values but yet there are too many cases of them not respecting European beliefs. That also includes homophobia, so it's beyond me why all the liberal gays support this
Not all Muslims are terrorists, but all terrorists are Muslims. And don't come here speaking of IRA and Basque nationalists, the risk from them is nothing compared to an army of people fighting for their spiritual beliefs. And there is really no effective way to combat Muslim radicalism (the term itself is stupid, because what they're doing is literally said in their holy book), it's being swept under the carpet. I don't want a Muslim radicalism problem and the only effective way of it is making those who are so unhappy with the rotten West leave.
Sorry for not being sorry. Like it here or leave, I don't recall Christians being treated nicely in Pakistan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia or other Muslim-dominated countries.
And about colonialism, well speak for yourself. My country did not exploit any Muslim lands and yet is being forced by the EU to accept migrant quotas.

Probably you don't know what has happened in Myanmar

This is truly the most incredulously baffling post I've seen on the Internet, EVER. "All terrorists are Muslims", really?!? You are so deeply uneducated and misinformed on world issues it's shocking.
By the way, there's absolutely no source to back up your claim that fertility rates are 6x higher in the Muslim community when compared with any other demographic. By the way, native Europeans can be Muslim too

It annoys me how all the emphasis is going in to his faith.
He's the new mayor of London, not the "first muslim" mayor of London.

I am honestly horrified at some of the bigots in this thread, you are truly disgusting and should be ashamed of yourselves. I personally didn't vote in this election but I have heard lots of amazing things about Sadiq Khan and he has been a very vocal ally of the LGBT community, despite lots of backlash from his own community. How DARE any of you come in this thread and bash him because of his religion when some of you are Christians. You are hypocrites and you should be ashamed of yourself.
Ugh. God I hate this forum sometimes, I'm honestly furious at this thread.

Some people here
As long as religion is kept out of politics, I'm fine with it.
Well done to him

The fact that it isn't happening yet and that there are other bad things happening isn't an argument that the problem does not exist. Y'all are going to see my point in a few decades, bookmark me.
If anyone here that's pressed is those who believe in the most idiotic invention that is multiculturalism and me bashing it in one post.
And that's yet another proof that the freedom speech is being limited for the purpose of ideologies. The problem with me is that I don't care about your accusations until some other argument than "ideological bias" is presented. ATRL in a nutshell y'all. Enjoy your Muslim mayor, hope he builds enough Mosques for you to see for yourself

Sure, Jan. And before it's converted to a mosque, be sure to stop by at a psychiatric hospital.

First of all you are extremely paranoid, secondly no not all terrorists are Muslims have you not heard of the IRIS, the Unabomber, (described by the FBI as a domestic terrorist) , Dylan Roof, the guy who were shooting innocent people in the cinama, Brenda Spencer, Anders Breveik etc etc, there are literally so many examples of non Muslims who commited terrorist activities the list is too long to list, you are on the internet and yet so ignorant. Educate yourself.
Your country cant even be described as multicultural, what are you even ranting about?
An FBI report shows that only a small percentage of terrorist attacks carried out on U.S. soil between 1980 and 2005 were perpetrated by Muslims and
Quote:
Moreover, another study undertaken by the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism – called ”Profiles of Perpetrators of Terrorism in the United States” – found:
Between 1970 and 2011, 32 percent of the perpetrator groups were motivated by ethnonationalist/separatist agendas, 28 percent were motivated by single issues, such as animal rights or opposition to war, and seven percent were motivated by religious beliefs.
