Decided to post #10-#6 early; it's already done - I needed to take my mind off of today's horrific tragedy for a bit. I hope you enjoy my picks.
"Just A Game" - Birdy
Heart-wrenching in every sense, "Just A Game" captures the spirt of Panem and The Hunger Games perfectly. Also, from this point on, all of the remaining songs in the countdown (including "Just A Game") became personal favorites upon first listen.
"Patsy Cline" - Dark Dark Dark
It's honestly a crime that this song isn't more well-known. There's genuine emotion in this song and in a year filled with seemingly fake sentiments from artists, it's something that I really appreciate.
"Bad Religion" - Frank Ocean
I'll be honest, I debated between "Bad Religion" and "Forrest Gump" for a while; I knew I only wanted to pick one and so I went with my gut. "Bad Religion" is a masterclass in heartbreak, and on a personal note, is a song that I needed this year. Frankly (heh, see what I did there?), I find it to be better than any of Adele's 'sad songs.'
"Step With Me" - Mika
It actually kind of pisses me off that people didn't give Mika's new album a chance; mostly because they missed out on this gem. "Step With Me" is sappy, sweet, adorable, etc., but it's also very reminiscent of the songs of the Disney renaissance in the 90s, particularly "Kiss The Girl" from 'The Little Mermaid.' Oh and it's getting played at my wedding. So there's that.

"I Knew You Were Trouble." - Taylor Swift
This is pop-Taylor's pièce de résistance. It's truly an incredible accomplishment considering when I first heard about the genre of the song, I was in a state of disbelief. This
is the best mainstream 'popstep' song ever and sets a very high standard for other pop artists.
