You have the nerve to praise Dreaming and bash Countdown, I Miss You and 1+1?

That impresses me as well, that is what sets albums apart from just a collection of songs. Thinking about it you are very right, all the songs that are hot at the moment sans Adele and 21, everything else is too current, too hip, and too right now. In 10 years people will be saying those sounds are used up and over, people say the same thing right now actually, the charts move fast these days. Beyoncé has a great ear and appreciation for music that can stand the test of time, she proved that with Crazy In Love, it can still be released today and sound fresh.

Definitely. I don't know if I'm just becoming more cynical, but everything literally sounds like it's being built off everything else. More so than ever before. Same same beats, same sound, same everything. I can barely distinguish each #1 hit from the next. When looking back, it''ll be really hard to ignore an album like '4' in the context of all of that.

At the end of the day, when I'm listening to 4, I'm listening to the recorded version of RDY. And it's just not that great. It's a good song. But not only does it not fit well between Party and Start Over, musically, the song is wholly somnolent. There are a few nice highlights in the song, but it's nullified by the majority of the song. TBH, the song only gets plays when 4 is playing in the background while I'm sleeping at night.

You'll eventually come around, wait until you meet the boy that you can't live without. In a few years you'll be running back in this thread talking about how Rather DIe Young changed your life.

1+1 is by far the best song on the album though.
I mean, I haven't even felt what 1+1 describes, but it's still my favorite. It's just amazing. Everything. The bass. The Prince vibe. The lyrics. The emotion. The vocals. Every single thing about it. It makes me want to feel that way about someone.

Yes. I play it every Friday night when Im going out. Its a type of album I love playing in the car and bopping on the highway to. I even listened to Rather Die Young in full for the first time since it leaked yesterday.
The best songs: 1+1, Best Thing I Never Had, Party, Start Over, Countdown, Love On Top, End of Time, Dance for You.

My favorite songs from '4' are 1+1, Love On Top, Countdown & 'End of Time'. They are the strongest tracks by far.
Those 4 songs >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Anything that was #1 this year.

Dear, if I was defensive you would know it. I just don't see the point of rushing into a thread before the stans to say a simple "no" without giving any background information or actual food for thought to the discussion. No one is expecting a strict pop listener who is used to uptempo dance songs or radio friendly sing-a-long tunes to like an R&B album full of mature songs anyway. The thread was made for fans of "4" who has initially had small issues with the album 8 months ago, basically an update.
But thank you for your contribution anyway.

I love I Miss You except for the lyrics of the chorus.... I love how she used Mariah's harmony effect with whispering front vocals and wailing back vocals to create a contrast and dynamic. But yes, Dreaming >>>>>> Countdown and 1+1. I think the Dream is a HORRIBLE songwriter and just read the lyrics of 1+1..... its written like some pretentious 14 year old going through puberty and just had his first erection. I'm not here for ****** lyrics and Bey happens to feature them in a lot of her songs.

Considering the fact that I'm not gay, I wouldn't count on it if I were you.

Not sure if I agree with those 4 songs being the Top 4 of 4, but I agree with that last bit for sure.

I Was Here has become timeless with me and I hope somewhere in the world this is released as a single. It deserves to smash so hard. RTW as a lead single was such a misinterpretation of the album as a whole.

I don't know much about guns but I, I've been shot by you.
I don't know when I'm gon die but I, I hope I'm gon die by you.
I don't know much about fighting, but I, I know I would fight for you.
And it's me and you. That's all we'll have when the world is through.
14 year-old going through puberty? I think not.

Mariah didn't invent Melisma and she isn't the only one who has used it in her music. And just because you don't like The Dream doesn't mean you can't appreciate when he delivers, like he did on Single Ladies.
1+1 may not have deep lyrics, but the song in it's final form is amazing, and the delivery is what makes a song impressive, she knocks on our front door and handles her business.
And no, I won't deal with any critiques about Countdown, it's perfect.

4 will age relatively well with time, unlike the majority of today's pop tarts who release ****** singles that hit #1 but will ultimately be forgotten.

I used to feel the same way about Diane. I used to call her corny, cheesy, you name it but I appreciate her more now. Yes, her songs are cliche but they do strike a chord more often then not. I hated I Was Here at first but I see its appeal now.
