On topic: Anyways, we really can't judge an album after 2 months since Rihanna rakes up the sales steadily but surely. Its still depends if Talk That Talk (the song) would smash, then we'll see her go plat.

Underperformed in the US for sure, but a flop? It's still Top 10 on the BB 200 and is basically selling off of WFL WW since You Da One did nothing anywhere. That's hardly a flop. It'll go platinum in the US and probably sell 4m WW.

I think it's because she hasn't promoted it that much, not to mention Adele's extreme popularity has overshadowed her album, and many people consider Rihanna a singles artist, so they only by the singles and forget her albums. Rihanna's business idea of releasing an album every year might also be an issue.

Not to mention, not everyone will buy her album on Black Friday or Christmas. I didn't buy her album until January 16th, after I had recieved an abundance of iTunes cards for Christmas and my birthday!

Grammies will definitely help though. It helped Amy Winehouse.

It ain't a flop, it sold pretty well thus far. Nowadays going Gold does not consider you a flop. However, it's not a success either, especially since the lead single has been so successful and should of traditionally pushed more copies for the album.

But since when do successful singles on pop radio push an album (minus Adele)? I think we all give the "hit single" thing a bit too much. It would make sense for an album to sell well by having a hit single, but it never really works out that way.

LOUD has 3 #1s and a lot of promo in the US and it did not reach the 2 million copies in the US

600k down 2 months in and currently sitting at #5. Then, considering it's overlap with the Loud era (almost serving as a re-release), receiving minimal promotion, and having only successful single so far (which just left #1 last week) I'd say it's a success so far.

I don't really know why there is so much focus on her US sales (well I do, it's an attempt to detract from the success she is having overall) anyway. Their consistently strong at the rate of which she releases. Should have little problem going platinum with upcoming promotion and another hit single. I see no reason why she can't keep the momentum going after "We Found Love" raps up. "Talk That Talk" and "Where Have You Been" are obvious hits that will provide her with momentum that could even have potential to rival Loud's success there. TTT's numbers aren't really relevant to debating her success, as an overall artist, for the time being when looking at how much she has sold with Loud a few months ago. That simply doesn't get erased, as some wish, it's still very relevant.
