No sis, word pairs a like onto, into etc. I was just trying to make his sentence grammatically correct by changing a few words.
Also, i think 'the point he is trying to make' would fall under present tense.
"That he had tried to make" would fall under past perfect tense .
While "the point he tried to make" would fall under simple past tense.
At least that's what i think.
