Geometry and algebra can be HIGHLY applicable to real life, let's be real. Like, that's back when real-life situations were still all over the word problems in every textbook; a geometric proof might be useless in many people's everyday lives but that doesn't mean other parts of the class are useless as well.
Anyway, law not being taught is not the point. Yes, it's necessary to understand the law at a basic level to function as a member of society - but don't you think that makes a case for adding a basic law class as a requirement, rather than removing requirements on a totally unrelated subject?

In the end, it never hurts to be educated. Whether you actually intend to be smarter than the average joe is your prerogative tho I guess.

um yes, definitely it should .
some of yall are basic enough to think that maths is just a numbers game , but no, Believe it or not, math teaches you how to problem solve. Every math problem that we analyze forces us to use many, if not all, of the detailed methods of problem solving.
Successful problem solvers pay attention to detail, they examine all elements & variables at hand, and they stick to a plan or formula -- all characteristics that are heavily reinforced by learning and studying math. It takes discipline to learn math and it takes discipline to focus on solving real-world problems even they aren't math related.

Yes, the math nerd is the site's most notoriously stubborn Gaga stan.
If you knew the square root of Q you would have known that earlier, sorry.

I can problem solve just fine without math components
Like how I manage to balance homework, social interactions, and sleep with school
Or the best way to fix conflict between two friends who got into a fight

While I personally adore English and literature courses, and find them critical to education, you are likely going to catch some heat from some members for ranking it as the most important.

You all need math, if it wasn't for math. You would basically be giving up your freedom of education, because then people would tend to scam you since you won't know how to do some math. They would take advantage of you and probably pay you way less since you don't know math. Not only that but learning geometry could also help you in building your own stuff. You should never let anyone think for you.
In NY it's a requirement to take Algebra + Geometry but it's optional if you want to take the college level algebra (which is actually not that bad, I feel more confident and smarter) or you could take basic statistics or even take another year of algebra.

Science & Social Studies are important. Science is important because it enlightens you and helps you understand more about the world and help you in situations. Social Studies is important because it's important to know how we got here in present day, how the past affected our future, ect.

Me and my friends in High School discuss this all the time.
Like we're learning about the most random ****ing **** our parents don't have a clue about because we're never gonna use it after we learn it. Ever again. It's so annoying.
I feel like you should only be required Math after Algebra in College if you have a major involving it or w/e. Like Geometry and Pre-Calculus / Calculus is not even gonna be used for 95% of us after school.
Ugh.

It's my fave core subject tbh. But I only find The Government class useful for life.

Or maybe...
Science, social studies, literature/English, and math are all important and necessary components of a well-rounded education?
Maybe that's what those people were trying to get at when every elementary school, high school, and university came to the conclusion to require all of them.

What if I wanna be a psychologist or something?
Good thing I knew how to find the circumference of a circle!

Umm, if you want to be a psychologist you need to calculate the amount of Neurotransmitters you need for your mentally ill patient not to go on a nervous breakdown/ damage their brain

and thats you , maybe you are naturally more adapt to problem solving- but the fact is not everyone is and alot of people (esp kids) will need to learn those essential skill since it flows through all aspects of life , from work to school.
by saying you're bad at math is admitting you're bad at making logical decisions. You might not always know how to reach the answer, but you should always be able to logically deduce the steps necessary, even if it requires...learning.
