You know that was after they changed their rules right? Complete Confection is Teenage Dream plus three new songs, even their sales on B200 are counted together.
As I said before Katy Perry would have to sell 600 million records for that to be even considered, 5 #1s from the same album is ONE OF Michael Jackson's achievements. Katy would have to do much more than that to consider a title like that perhaps win a Grammy like Michael or sell 100 million copies from one album.
And no sorry, 'Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection' is a different album than 'Teenage Dream'. Perhaps different versions of the same but the merit is gone when you add songs that were not originally in the album in question. Pretty much takes away all the merit and signifies that the record is not broken just equaled, in a tricky way anyway. If any of the remaining songs that haven't got to #1 from the original 12-song tracklisting of 'Teenage Dream' goes to #1, I'll stand corrected, 'til then.
Once again, this does not make her the female MJ.. It took ALOT for him to get him all he's done.. Katy has yet to even do HALF of what he's done.. Just saying..
Did it really tho? The Hot 100 back then was 100% based on pop radio and nothing else, so it was easier for Pop artists to get #1 singles. Now you have to do well in multiple genres. Not saying he wouldn't have, but to say it took A LOT is simply untrue.
She beat MJ's record? Wait, Katy outsold Thriller? Katy has a record breaking solo debut tour? Katy revolutionized the music video? Katy is the richest musician in the world? Does Katy have an MTV award named after her? Was Katy named the artist of the decade/millennium? No? Will she *ever* have any of these things? No? Hmmm.

All that broad did was match (not break) his #1 singles record -- which was probably one of his more obscure achievements. Oh, and Michael's five #1 singles came from an album that is RIAA certified 9x platinum in the U.S., and has sold over 30 million. When you contrast that against Katy's album that had five number one singles, and is only 2x platinum hasn't even sold 10 million copies worldwide...it sort of pales in comparison. Imagine scoring a handful of number one singles AND still selling tens of millions of albums at the same time. Bad outsold Katy's entire discography, and then some.

I don't get why people say it either. She's more naturally talented, likable, successful, pretty and well known than MJ. It's like an insult to her to even compare them.
Because they're ignorant. No one with any shred of musical intelligence, knowledge or history would dare even mention Katy Perry's name in the same breath as Michael Jackson. That can't even be dismissed as an age/generational thing, it's just a stupid thing.
