I agree with her tbh. It's annoying when most of these pop stars say "I love my gays". It's like these girls saying "I have a friend who's gay" it's not a bag sis.

She didn't say anything untrue. There's a difference between being genuinely grateful and supportive of your gay fans who look up to you and specifically mentioning and pandering to them for a solid fanbase and sales. When you do the latter it's really just offensive instead of supportive. Marina has a lot of gay fans but she's never tried to pander to them, they just so happen to gravitate towards her music and that's that. This reminds me of when Miley Cyrus said that if you want a loyal fanbase you should get in good with the gays or something to that effect.

Yes, I did read the full thing, but usually the OP can shape which direction a thread heads. You made an attention grabbing title, inserted a shady "I wonder who she's referring to" at the end, and then you complain when the thread goes in a different, shady direction. It's ATRL, what did you expect, when you already made the thread conducive for replies like that? :Toofunny:

If you really read it your first response in this thread wouldn't have been on the offensive initially. And yes, I'm aware that thread titles and closing comments can color the perception, but a relatively intelligent doesn't let perception rule over reality. When I read a title like this [which is accurate btw], I read the actual words underneath to understand it.

I have to believe the artists who think this way are artists who don't have deep connections with their fans. Gaga, Taylor, Ke$ha, etc. all have deeply personal connections with their fans that dictate how they interact with them. Gaga and Ke$ha are very motherly because their fans come to them with their problems while Taylor is very friend-like because her fans approach her that way. How are you going to condemn the way these artists interact with their fans knowing damn well how much it helps their fans and how much their fans love it? There is absolutely, 100% nothing wrong with the way these artists interact with their fans.
As for the pandering thing, I get it. There are some artists who will say they "love the gays" every now and then without doing anything for the community, and that's bad, but at the same time it's better than the popstars who say absolutely nothing about the gay community. But again, artists like Ke$ha and Gaga have been pro-LGBT, and loudly so, their entire careers, so trying to imply they're pandering just shows you don't know what pandering is.
Edit: at most of the people agreeing being people who have faves who pay them dust on the regular.

What a ridiculous post.
First of all, how is having a video with men in a locker room showering gay pandering?
Second, if you agree with what she's saying, why are you mentioning Gaga and Kesha? If they're not pandering to gays, you should feel secure in that. I don't think she's talking abut them either. There's a better recent example.
And how do we have faves who pay us dust?

So if I was to reverse this the people who get unsually defensive over an opion are those who seek validation from their faves and indirectly admitting to their fave's gay pandering?
Does that make sense? No? Neither does your post so spare us the Internet psychology.

I kind of feel the same way now, because, yeah, of course I have a really strong gay fan base, and the fact is that it is a really enjoyable factor for me to have a really strong demographic because it makes the shows a lot more fun, for one, and because they are really expressive. But all types of people should be appreciated. I'm sure the gays would back me up on that! (Laughs)

I hope she's being ironic by referring to them ~the gays~ or stereotyping them all as "expressive."
Anyway, this is just another example of why I can never completely get on board with Marina as a person. She seems so holier than thou, and that is a turnoff.

The gaga fan says
Actually cringing rn
Anyway, she's spot, I agree completely. Don't get me wrong, she is extremely pretentious and full of herself, but she's very right here. Artists who always say "I love my gays," or something along those lines, which is wrong on so many dimensions. For starters, isn't that sort of excluding the "straights" and everyone else? Also, do you really love all of the gays? Some of them are annoying, terrible people. It's just unnecessary to constantly pAndre to them, or one group in general, like she said
