Adele won because she's Adele. She wasn't just "lucky" - her album's success is still unmatched in today's climate, she was riding a huge award shows wave, and she's generally likable and very gracious. The Bond anniversary probably swayed a few voters her way, but if any other pop star at the time had recorded the theme they would have had an uphill battle.
