Because they are SO influential, they changed the flow of pop music and blah blah blah, at that time the hype really wasn't deserved (except for Revolver and Sgt. Pepper's).

I don't think their music is basic though.

Hijacking this comment a bit, but I think the future will be free music dispersed from a platform which can measure downloads. Provide free, HQ, legal music from a singular place so people flock to use it and in return they get insane traffic (ads would provide revenue) and the ability to genuinely calculate total song popularity. We're seeing Spotify/Youtube/LastFM demonstrate where things are going. Accessing cloud databases (made easier via all-encompassing phone/media devices) will trump physically owning the music.

The only way you can control piracy is to legalise it and profit from it. The cat's out of the bag now and they're never going to be able to get it back in no matter how russian roulette sue-happy they get. The industry needs to be shaken up and redesigned to be relevant for the digital age. Labels are increasingly becoming unnecessary because you can do so much with so little online, digital albums costing the same as physical is exploitive and how the royalties in general are split needs to be seriously reassessed.

They got lucky that Apple introduced iTunes when it did, but they may not be as fortunate in future. Labels are going to have to work together and make a universal move to keep on top of everything otherwise they're just going to watch sales decrease into nothing and go bankrupt, leaving nobody in a position to sort it out.

I think I was only biased to say this after my dad told me that The Beatles were a lot more weird in their music than Radiohead . I just don't see the weirdness in their songs at all , so for me their songs would be normal compared to other artists, that's my definition of basic

but I have to agree at most, that their legacy was very impactful at the least

I agree that they are overrated, but they were really an awesome band and without good music, they wouldnt have stood the proof of time...

1. Femme Fatale is one of Britney's best albums. It's at least better than the debut, Oops!, Britney and Circus.
2. The trinity of Madonna albums is Erotica, Bedtime Stories and Music.
3. Dangerously In Love is a hopeless collection of boring, midtempo filler tracks and might even be inferior to I Am ... Sasha Fierce in my book.
4. Bionic is better than all Christina albums except for Back To Basics.
5. Aphrodite and X are two of Kylie's worst albums.
6. Unapologetic is one of Rihanna's best albums alongside Good Girl Gone Bad and Rated R.
7. Hard Candy is better than any Rihanna/Katy album.
