The Empire Strikes Back is one of the most acclaimed films ever made. There is a reason it continually tops lists and is so highly rated. The first Star Wars movie is probably the most influential movie ever made when it comes to SFX and visuals. There is a reason it won tons of Academy Awards and spawned Pixar.

The way Disney is marketing this film you can probs see it without having to watch any of the previous ones but if you want some backstory/idea of what's going on you should see Episodes 4-6 beforehand and if you really like those see the prequel trilogy
