BEAST - FICTION AND FACT
Korean boy band BEAST stepped back onto the K-pop scene back in May with this 10-track set, eight of which were new songs (a huge feat for any Korean release). When BEAST's comeback was first announced, I expected the usual; a fun, playful uptempo with a pseudo-edgy image, and boy was I wrong. Not only is title track "Fiction" a melancholy midtempo, but the album itself is a huge step in the right direction for BEAST. Fiction and Fact is emotional, honest, and filled with solid production and phenomenal vocals. A well-deserved #35. |

2NE1 - 2ND MINI ALBUM
2NE1's 2nd Mini Album ranks in at #34 on the countdown. While I do feel slightly bad that my girls have come in this low, it's understandable if you've heard this mini-album. It's only six tracks, plus it pales quite highly in comparison to their previous releases. "I Am the Best", "Don't Cry", and "Don't Stop the Music" may be some of the best K-pop songs of the last year, but the mini-album as a whole is a lot more disposable than their last two albums. In short, it's missing true gems, a la "I Don't Care" from 2NE1 or "Go Away" from To Anyone. Hopefully my fellow Blackjacks won't be too mad at me for this. |

COLDPLAY - MYLO XYLOTO
I am a huge Coldplay fan, but Mylo Xyloto doesn't deserve to be any higher than #33 on this list. It's a great album, yes, and placing it any lower would be wrong considering that its tracklist includes Rihanna's magnum opus, "Princess of China", but Xyloto was a lot of hype and not a lot of deliverance. It's bland and extremely predictable, especially in comparison to their last two albums, X&Y and Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends. |

BIG BANG - BIG BANG 2
Girls, another one of my faves is out! Big Bang offered up three releases this year, in the form of their TONIGHT mini-album, Special Edition record, and their second Japanese album, this one reaching #32. BIG BANG 2 is probably Big Bang's best album to date, not including their solo work. "Beautiful Hangover" alone should be enough of a description for this album's placing. |

MARY J. BLIGE - MY LIFE II...THE JOURNEY CONTINUES (ACT I)
Mary, Mary, Mary...where to begin? She titled this album, which clocks in at #31, My Life II, in sequel to her magical second album, 1994's My Life. While My Life II is fun and enjoyable, it fails to match the intensity, emotion, and ecstasy found on its "prequel" of sorts, which is probably what knocked it out of the top 30. |
