I wouldn't be surprised if he was speaking from the "executive producer" perspective. She's probably been working with other producers, and his statement likely referencing the fact that they haven't begun selecting/mastering songs specifically for the album.

I find it hard to believe that she's been locked out of the studio for all this time, sitting on her hands.

I don't think it'll take long for her to record a new album. If they start recording in January (if she has the written material) then it'll probably be finished within a couple of months.

Quirks like this are one of the main reasons why I love her though. She's hilarious, they're part of who she is.

If they really start in January (let's assume mid of January), then I guess the album will be done by March because I'm sure a lot of things will have been recorded, arranged or prepared until then already and all they need to do in many cases is remaster them instead of having to record everything from scrap.

Lead single in February should be no problem then.

Maybe she actually has worked with other producers. Maybe not just Dr. Luke yet, and she will supposedly go in the studio for January. The label must be allocating the recording sessions. I know Luke is responsible for most of her previous material, but nothing is restricting her from going elsewhere.
