OK, and your last.fm shows zero plays of Wadada Leo Smith, Brian Wilson, Loretta Lynn, Serge Gainsbourg, Outkast, D'Angelo, Ali Farka Toure.... So if your argument is that ATRLers not listening to THESE albums means they don't know anything outside of pop, that would naturally mean you don't know anything outside of pop either.
Of course ATRL is pop-leaning, but there are plenty of R&B/hip-hop/alternative/country/whatever fans around here. The truth remains that these specific albums are unknown by a lot of people. It's great to have critical acclaim, but obviously it's not everything. If no one is listening to your album, who cares if it has a high metacritic ranking? That was all I was saying.
7 out of 10 are black. I am not saying it's impossible, but white artists in general are at least 3 times more than black artists (since it's like that in the population itself), yet ......
