This isn't wrong at all. There are kids who would want this. They aren't being forced, they are given an option. And since when are options a bad thing? Anyone acting like this is a horrible idea just seems super insecure
And FYI, not everything is about bullying. What about gay kids who want to have gay peers? Who want to be immersed in gay culture (not the 'YASSS SLAY' kind you find here)? Think about the experience they'll have with most likely gay teachers and adults to look up too. This could also probably increase their chances of getting accepted into good colleges, as they are looking to promote diversity, and this way they would know they were getting an LGBT student.
Although it'd make more sense for High Schools, rather than K-8.

I love your friend omg.
I think this idea is noble, a fair option, being with kind like-minded people and away of homophobia in the school during your teenage years is something I'm sure many kids wish for. I'll wait to see how it works out to fully judge it, but I think effort should be directed to LGBT-inclusiveness in all schools districts and honor LGBT History Month. Like some mentioned, have LGBT studies classes, support and anti-bullying groups and school personal prepared to deal with any kind of harassment.
And I find erza's idea that it will create privilege a quite interesting way to look at it.

As an educator, I completely support the idea of an LGBT school. I've read books about "Harvey Milk High School" and thus understand how beneficial an LGBT school can be for students that are bullied for having different sexual orientations.

As I mentioned earlier, in Marvel Comics' Ultimate X-Men series, Northstar, one of Marvel's most prominent homosexual mutant superheroes, mentions his coming out experience and his mother trying to enroll him in the Harvey Milk High School. He refused due to his belief that enrolling would only promote segregation of hetero- and homosexual students.

I agree with the potential problem of segregation.

I see why some people would think this is a good idea but segregation isn't really the way plus only about 10% of the population is LGBT so financially those schools would be hard to maintain plus elementary schools and middle schools?
Just no. Fight homophobia, fight racism, don't segregate people.

Let's be honest, a high school with 100% gay teen boys would turn into a goddamn mess quick.

I haven't heard about gang bang parties at Harvey Milk High School. Or maybe I'm not invited.

This is awesome. I'd love to go to school with other huntys. Plus, it could really be an outlet for LGBT youth to express themselves and make change by bringing awareness.

Not every gay man is a hunty and not every straight is a non-hunty

Right? Build confidence, build awareness, build a safe environment for success, etc. Gay kids usually have horrible k-12 grades in comparison to how they do in colleges (more mature, less bullying or none at all, diverse, etc).
Like, prepare these kids for a society that hates them/fights against them instead of having them beat down from the get go. It's not the best solution but it's a nice option imo

!!
The dumb topic of segregation ( ) in here is definitely a product of being uninformed & ignorant. An all catholic or all gay school is not segregation wtf

Exactly. People are running their mouths about segregation but fail to understand that minorities often need their own safe spaces. That's why historically black universities exist. White people can attend, too, but black students going there can be assured that they will live and study in a community accommodating to their race.
Same line of thinking here. Public school in the US is notoriously hostile to LGBT/non gender conforming students. The bullying/attempted suicide rates are huge. Why can't they have their own optional safe space?

They can it doesn't mean everyone has to agree with the concept. There's also gay-straight confederations in many schools.

And to the know it alls already in here: segregation is something you're forced into. CHOOSING to be apart of an all-gay whatever is not segregation (wtf)

I feel like the intention is good but I'm not sure if I like this idea. We're basically gonna exclude ourselves from everyone as if we are ashamed. We are all the same and I think we should all co-exist. How can people become more tolerant of gays when they're hiding and going to different schools?
Plus how would homophobic parents even allow their kids the option to go to such an institution?

Right. I'm sending my LGBT kid to an exclusive school for their success in life because of shame. (Wtf no)
Straight people are in charge of straight schools. There's no good role models to look up to, no mention of LGBT people in class material (erasure), completely failed attempts to curb abuse towards even other straight kids, let alone gay ones. So let's just limit our options and say something useless like 'omg just stop bullying guise!1'
No thanks.

This is a pretty bad idea you are only more likely to create more social strains for LGBT
