You have the Enlightenment thinkers to blame for that. They were the ones who invented the concept of races which was used as justification for imperialism, racism and slavery.

everyone was racist in 1900-1940, if we blame Gandhi, I'm sure we can blame any person you can think of.

Gandhi was one of the biggest men of the last century. Educate yourself and read some of his speeches. His "no violence" theory should be practiced all over the world so we wouldn't be as we are now.

Racism WAS a normalized and wide-spread idea of that time though (and it still is today to a much smaller extent). I never said that makes it okay. I'm sure we'd find a huge gleaming flaw in every major historical figure if we sat here and dissected them all. It still doesn't erase the impact they've had on the world.

Being racist in a time when most people were racist is just not that surprising. If the world's view on race back then was the way that it is today, and Ghandi still held those beliefs, then I could see a reason to be shocked and outraged.
