Wouldn't this just be a "best-selling album" or "best era" thread in that case?
Signature albums are the ones that first come to mind when an artist is mentioned; it seems like a lot of these responses deal with commercial peaks rather than the artist's magnum opus.
As far as the whole new level biz, Madonna's
Ray of Light arrived eight albums into her career and by then she was a force to be reckoned with, no?
One of the best rap albums of all time, even the best.
