I would be more surprised if it opened with 2000-2004 era numbers.

But don't forget that Amazon unnecessarily inflated BTW's first week sales. Had that never happened, Gaga would've never suffered that drop. She never asked Amazon to discount her album. Of course the drop was going to be huge. MDNA, as far as I'm aware, had no inflation.

I believe the writer of the article is referring to the album.
As Lionel is predicted to sell another 100K, and will probably continue selling well, while Madonna is plummeting

No, it wasn't natural. All previous 1m+ sellers sold 300k+ in their second weeks. BTW sold like 150k and we all know why.

I don't doubt the validity of their data, but they didn't really state exactly what record she broke. Many albums suffered higher sales drops, and I would be amazed if no other album in Billboard history ever lost more than 88% of its first-week sales the week after.

It was obvious Lionel would hold up better than Madonna, and I stated this when their first week sales were announced. I don't know why anyone is "surprised."

Read this earlier on a blog site. Still the Queen of pop with nothing to prove at this point in her career. I doubt she's bothered. Madonna, at this point, basically makes albums to tour. Her tour will be massive. "Flop" album or not.
