But Sats, your view is a little too myopic. Listen to Beyonce's actual performance- her interpretation of the lyric. Especially in the bridge - the "if you don't/you'll be alone/like a ghost/I'll be gone" bit is hands down better than anything of the other nominees offered up. There is so much complexity in that one couplet; I was so proud of her that she pulled it off.
And Beyonce had to be honored for her mastery of hip-hop tracks - outside of 90s Mary, she is hands-down the best singer to ever ride a beat.
