I can't say this song makes me excited for the album, and I was SUPER excited about hearing this song. Roar, on the other hand, I expected to be much worse and yet I prefer it much more.

I think this sound fits Gaga perfectly, though. The melody wasn't memorable to me at first, but now I can't get it out of my head. She's always been best when she makes music that is unapologetically pop, as opposed to her tracks that see her trying to create new genres.

This will perform as well as a song like "Suit & Tie," maybe even better.

No one ever said Applause was going to be innovative. You'd have to be really thick to think they wouldn't release the most commercial song on ARTPOP as the lead single We've already heard what the less radio-friendly aspects of the album will sound like (Aura), so now we have the commercial stuff.

Everyone did say, though, that DJWS sucked all around. Applause (and many songs on BTW) says otherwise imo.

True but people are quoting as saying that ARTPOP would be innovative, and since this is the first single, the one to define and sell the album, I'd assume that it too would be innovative. It's likely that the album is innovative, and sounds nothing like Applause, but that would be weird to launch it to the public with a song that doesn't fit it.

It'd be like saying you're making a latin-inspired album but the first single is a pop song.

Wow, you EXACTLY put into words what my opinion on Applause is. The production is probably the worst thing of the song.

I think its a good song, not my favorite Pop song released this year but its in the Top 5 .

I think its a bit safe for her though. I don't hear anything revolutionary or anything that needs to be over-hyped here. It just sounds like a really catchy EuroPop jam, and there isn't anything from with that. I hope ARTPOP gives me more of an evolved sound.

The chorus is clearly the highlight of course.
