Tony Bennett feat. Amy Winehouse "Body & Soul"
This year we lost a star. I still remember when I first listened to Amy back in 2006, I really thought that she was like 40 and that she had a very weird voice. I was so wrong. BTB still remains as one of my favorite albums of the 00s. Thank you Amy! RIP.
Chris Young "Tomorrow"
2011 was the first year in which I started exploring country music deeper. This was one of the first songs that caught my attention, its lyrics are very touching and I can really tell that he's a very talented vocalist. I wish country music stopped being treated as a stereotype, it's actually good.
Patrick Stump feat. Lupe Fiasco "This City"
Patrick really reinvented himself this time. I mean, he was part of Fall Out Boy aka. Pete Wentz & co. and out of nowhere he changed his look and decided to take a chance. His new sound is not that bad, but I still feel like he needs to find his own style. He's on the right path though.
Paty Cantú "Goma De Mascar"
One of the cheesiest songs of the year, but who cares? It's genious. In my previous yearend threads I would make a separate list for spanish songs, but this year I just can't do that because there were barely a few of them that are worth the mention. GDM should be my favorite then, love it or hate it.
Nicki Minaj "Right Thru Me"
Nicki and I started with the wrong foot. At first I really disliked her, I thought she was just another random pop girl who would eventually fade away. Then I downloaded this song for free in an ipod app and well, the bubblegum beat was irresistible. My beloved ipod was sadly stolen soon after that though =(
Parachute "Kiss Me Slowly"
I insist, Parachute is very underrated. They're just too good to be left unknown. This song is the first of three appearances by them in this countdown. It had a short run on my cd because its successor was released relatively fast but I'm sure it would've have peaked higher. Beautiful lyrics.
The Click-Five "Don't Let Me Go"
The Click-Five is not as good as they used to be back in 2005, I don't even get why they ran to Asia, it's so weird that they would only release their stuff in there. But anyway, I made do with this song this year. The video is cute but it's so cliché.
Rise Against "Make It Stop (September's Children)"
Shame on me for liking this song when it was way too late. It deals with one of the most controversial social issues lately, bullying. I think it has a very strong message, the video is amazing and the song is definitely worth a listen.
Kate Voegele "Heart In Chains"
This song wasn't originally meant to be part of this list, but in the last minute I had a change of heart. The chorus is so catchy, the vocals are perfect, damn I don't get why I didn't realize about that earlier. I wish artists like Kate would breakthrough to mainstream radio instead of the generic crap that we have now.
Within Temptation "Faster"
This year I was introduced to the sound of this band. At first sight they might seem like the typical female fronted band, but you gotta look closer cause they're far more than just that. The vocalist's voice slays, their lyrics are very deep and their videos are very creative. Winning combo.
