Eric Stonestreet's acting was SO on point
This episode was so weird anyway, we didn't see Cam appear until near the end of the episode
They were definitely trying something new.
Not Claire forcing Mitch to go through a tunnel so he can be emotionally healed and ending up being mugged
And i kept seeing this mysterious random guy rollerskating throughout the episode (passing by Gloria's family and Phil/Cam) and it's only at the end that i realised it was Mitchell all along.
This episode is getting good reviews everywhere for it's originality

At least once a season, Modern Family tries something clever and outlandish and absolutely nails it. Last season, it was the delirious farce of “Las Vegas,” and in season six, it looks like “The Day We Almost Died” is the overachiever.
Opinions will vary about whether or not “The Day We Almost Died” is among Modern Family’s funniest episodes, but there’s no arguing that its the most ambitious episodes of season six, and among maybe the five most interesting episodes in the show’s history.
