Damn, genetic fail! You just rated the two countdown leaders way lower than anyone else so far. I think it's still between them for the top spot, but it might open things up a little bit for a surprise winner...
All done. What a fun list to fill out! I had forgotten how much I love TLC, Crazysexycool is one of the best albums of all time. And those betches in En Vogue can sang! Nicole Scherzinger should have never come out as a member of the Pussycat Dolls. If she'd just been a solo artist from the start and had these incredible hits to herself she would be a superstar now. Shame!!
Looks like pretty much everyone who wanted to participate has sent in their scores, but I'll leave things open for another day or so while I prepare everything. Feel free to send me a ballot if you haven't; the countdown should start on Thursday.
The votes have been tallied (thank you to my 13 participants!) and I'm ready to reveal which diva anthem reigns supreme. It was a tight battle—with two highly regarded tracks trading spots at the top throughout the balloting process and a third nipping at their heels by the end—but ultimately, one song emerged the clear favorite. Amazingly, the top four songs each come from a different group, so you know the competition was fierce and the results will be interesting. (Just for your information, scores were rounded to two decimal places and all ties were broken by looking at which song had more higher ratings.) I can't wait to hear what you all think, so let's get started! The first order of business is taking out some of the trash...
"When I Grow Up" (2008) Doll Domination
Hot 100 Peak: #9
Overall score: 5.73 High score: 10 (1x)/Low score: 1 (1x)
Clearly a love-it-or-hate-it kind of track, the scores for "When I Grow Up" fell across a wide spectrum. Though it was the Pussycat Dolls' final top ten hit, voters were not so kind, condemning it to last place with almost half its ratings under a 5.
Overall score: 5.88 High score: 10 (2x)/Low score: 2 (1x)
After months of (awfully public) behind-the-scenes drama, the Pussycat Dolls limped to its death with this high-energy, retro remix of the Nicole Scherzinger ballad "Hush Hush." Though a sample of Gloria Gaynor's disco classic "I Will Survive"—so heavy throughout the track we might as well call it a cover—gives it some fun danceability, voters deemed the song about as essential as the confusing semicolon in its title.
I love When I Grow Up! Sick beat, and the video is cray cray. Although I think it's ridiculous that PCD ever tried to market themselves as a girl group when it was so obviously Nicole Scherzinger flanked by a revolving door of nameless, faceless backup dancers.
