It is obvious the record company is trying to get virtually everyone to buy this album first week. Even non-casual fans will want to take advantage of special offers like the dollar sale on Amazon and the free giveaways at Best Buy. But there comes a point where people just won't want the album and that's it. Just because there are all of these discounts and promotional avenues doesn't mean that Gaga necessarily has to sell a certain amount. At the end of it all there may just be people who don't want the album and that's it. All in all I think Interscope has done a good job promoting the album (sans free giveaways and selling the album for a dollar because that is just desperate) and if it doesn't break a million then it simply doesn't break a million. It's coming to a point this week where she is reaching a sales ceiling and anything extra promo wise will just be over kill.
I don't think Gaga has to sell a million first week for this to be a success story. I think 600-700k is more then worth it for what went into it. Though it is obvious Interscope wants that 1 million plus opening week.
