Born This Way (the song) might be iconic in the long run, but other than that I would [unfortunately] call this era forgettable. As a monster, I will remember it of course. But I'm sorry - BTW was drowned out by many other moments in music this year. Several of them. Even Jo was out shined by Beyonce's baby reveal. Gaga dominated in an entirely different way that didn't really highlight her music, just her presence (which she has more of than the people who dominated musically). Not to mention, if Gaga's next album is bigger and better - BTW will be squished between two titans - only furthering its depletion from the public. But it doesn't really matter to me. I love this album, iconic or no. But nothing on here comes close to cultural movements of Poker Face or Bad Romance, hell, not even Just Dance. The closest will unfortunately go down as a Madonna knock off.

Yeah The Edge of Glory is forgettable, unfortunately. Great song. For the first time, I agree with Monroe on this.... TEOG represents everything wrong here, and why no one but little monsters will remember this era

The song itself wasn't huge either. But most of the time things that are considered iconic are images. For example:
These images are iconic and memorable. I can't think of anything about Edge Of Glory that is memorable. Even in terms of hit status it wasn't nearly as big as the likes of Gaga's other singles. There is no image to hold on to and that's why it's not memorable or iconic.
You idiots have NO idea what the word iconic means. The hype BTW was one of the more memorable thing s of 2011 itself, but iconic? Give me a break. It was an average era.
Nope. I think ultimately she will be defined by her Fame era. Regardless of whether a few critics want to claim BTW is her masterpiece. BTW has tripped her up and pulled back the curtain. .
