Back in 2004 when I got into J-Pop, I became an Ayumi fan first, and because of that I felt it was my duty to hate Utada. But Gerry (or Zephyr), another ATRL member, was a fan of Utada and always tried to change my ways, but I never even gave her a chance. It was the Exodus album that first made me appreciate her, particularly Devil Inside and Exodus '04. Then Be My Last came out, and Passion, and with that she instantly eclipsed Ayumi.
I actually learned a lot of Japanese phrases from listening to artists like Utada. I'm glad you are a fan of her Japanese work, as well as (hopefully) some of her English work.
Only a little, I listen to almost exclusively her Japanese material.

Let's discuss the amazing Prisoner Of Love and how it was robbed by only ending up #8 in the J-Pop rate, behind songs such as Kumi's Taboo and Pop Diva and Namie's Wild and What A Feeling.
