Okay, I think we're agreeing with each other
Most people were on board with the dual release because they thought Pop wouldn't go near Needed Me. The others thought that if one of the songs kills the other, it's fine, whatever.
As we eventually found out that did happen. Not only did that happen, but NM also crossed over to Pop. The situation was unexpected. None of us thought Needed Me would still be doing well in August regardless of format
When I look back on the Stay/PIU situation, I don't even think it would play out the same in 2016. With the prevalence of streaming PIU would've charted much higher. They would've been competing at the very best, and Stay might've suffered on streaming (in comparison) since it did well on AC stations. I'm starting to think dual releases are kinda impossible for her now, or at least how she likes to do them
Needed Me and TIWYCF were able to coincide, but they weren't released at the same time. Maybe that's the key difference.
