Good morning everyone, Phil here. This is my first attempt at CaringBridge authorship. It’s kind of intimidating following LesLee’s posts so please adjust your expectations accordingly.
First off, I know word has already started to spread, but for those of you who haven’t heard, Taylor Swift did come to visit Lauren yesterday afternoon. How AWESOME is that?
I’ll share some details of the visit later but first I want to thank all the people out there who played a part in making it happen. Your cards, letters, posters, videos, and video editing skills (Zach) all contributed to the operation we called “Lolo Thunder” and it paid off big. Lauren’s been smiling from ear-to-ear for about 18 straight hours.
The “Lolo Thunder” team did a great job. It’s always been my experience that behind every great team you’ll find a great leader….and, I think you know who I’m talking about here. It was LesLee’s imagination that sparked the idea, it was her enthusiasm and joy of life that galvanized the effort and it was her perseverance and oversight that brought it all together to make a very special moment happen for a very special girl who’s been sick a very long time. I’m in awe of how in the midst of her own turmoil LesLee conveys a spirit of belonging, the satisfaction of a shared purpose and the inspiration to attempt the impossible to everyone she meets. That’s why “Lolo Thunder” worked. Plain and simple.
Now to the details…Taylor Swift stopped by Lauren's room at the hospital around 1 pm in the afternoon. She spent about an hour chatting with Lauren and Jonathan. Jonathan played a song on the ukulele for her. Lauren got in on the act and played a song on the electronic piano key board that she got for her birthday. Taylor was very impressed with both performances. I don't mean "polite impressed". I mean "real impressed". Taylor shared stories from her childhood as she was getting her start as an entertainer and she told us all about the special stage designs of her new show. She posed for photos with everyone. And, in case you are not aware, she is a very photogenic young lady. Just before she had to leave, Taylor got out a bag of goodies for Lauren and provided autographs on notebooks, photographs and guitar picks. Finally, she signed a special autograph to Jonathan on the front of the ukulele. It was a great afternoon for everyone and I'm sure Lauren will remember it for many years to come. So, to Taylor Swift, from a very grateful dad, thanks for brightening our day!
