'That was very surprising to me," she says. "The one thing they had a problem with was me making a pop album. They were very scared that we wouldn't be able to maintain the level of success we had with Red. But I didn't care. It would have been all on me if we hadn't sold half of what they wanted, and I knew that. But I knew that you can't let fans get comfortable with what you make. We're supposed to entertain people. Repeating one thing over and over again is not entertaining.'
Refreshing too, is that she has called a resounding '********' on the idea that women must be ****ographic to sell their music. Pop's nicest girl was the most successful artist of 2014, with the biggest album release in 12 years, yet, thus far, has had sex with exactly zero wrecking balls.
This interview was done the done the day before the Brit Awards. So before she met Calvin Harris and as such none of her comments can be interpreted as a reflection of her thoughts about him.
80's teen pop star, Debbie Gibson, does an interview with Billboard. In one part she talks about Taylor
Quote:
Can we wrap with discussing Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber? They, like you, conquered the business at similar young ages. Swift has essentially never missed a step, public image-wise, while Bieber has had his well-documented troubles. Granted, you didn't grow up in a social media world where every move could be dissected so closely, but how do you view that familiar landscape in which young stars find themselves now?
My whole life flashes before my eyes when you ask me that question … You know, it's an odd upbringing, so it does not come without its twists and turns and moments. Again, I feel like just now I'm emerging into who I really am.
You start out, and you're yourself, and then your image becomes so prominent that you start living up to the image. I've watched Taylor Swift from a distance and she seems like she's very authentic. However, people are expecting her to be a certain way. But, if she needs to come apart at the seams … she should. That's what I've realized as my life has gone on.
I was so accustomed to doing interviews where you won't read anything [emotionally]. Then, I realized that that's an exhausting way to live and an inauthentic way to live. It's more interesting to be vulnerable. I'm not perfect. I have meltdowns constantly. So, I think the more open you can be, it saves your own sanity.
I do think Taylor Swift is handling her life so gracefully and eloquently. I think, "I don't know how she has time to host dinner parties, perform at awards shows, host everything …" Hats off to you, sister! And, musically she's taking chances. I love the fact that she came out with 1989 and said that she's not country now. She's not worried about alienating people. She's owning what she's doing. That, for me, is my favorite moment for her.
I also look at Justin Bieber, and Miley Cyrus, and think … they're really age-appropriate. There's a line in Jersey Boys: "You give a guy from Jersey millions of dollars and hit records and see how you would act." I look at Bieber and think … he's pretty much acting like a college boy, with a lot of money and a lot of toys. I think he'll come around. He can get to know who he is.
Those Glamour UK pics are probably the worst Taylor has ever looked
That would belong to either:
- Shake It Off premiere livestream
- The Giver press conference
- 2015 Brits
- WANEGBT video premiere in Times Square
- New Year's Eve 2014-2015 performance
She has been called the Chinese version of Taylor Swift.
And now Gloria Tang Tsz-kei, better known by her stage name G.E.M. (which stands for Get Everybody Moving), is about to compete with the pop star as she takes on the US with several stadium tour dates this fall.
'I am so complimented that people compare me to Taylor,' the 23-year-old told DailyMail.com. 'I am impressed by her. Not only are her hits like Shake It Up (LOL) so much fun, but she plays the guitar and writes her own music. That is so rare these days.'
She has yet to meet Swift, but said they almost had a close encounter at the Nickelodeon Awards. 'We were both nominated but I couldn't make it because I have a TV show in China I was committed to,' she said. 'It's a shame.'
But once she does meet the Red hit maker, she has a lot to say to her. 'Of course I would like to tell her how gifted I think she is. I also would have a lot of questions about her style and her writing just because I am curious,' she added.
And she wouldn't mind getting to know her friends.
'Taylor surrounds herself with some very good artists,' the Sony Music talent said.
'I really admire Selena Gomez, she has such range. dafuq? And Justin Bieber can do so much, he plays so many instruments.
'But the one I would really like to meet is Justin Timberlake because he has so much charisma and he is so sexy when he dances. It's not often you find an incredible singer who can dance well too.'
As far as the Katy Perry and Taylor feud, the savvy artist has a say about that too.
'They are so different musically you just cannot compare them,' said G.E.M.
'But I would have to say Taylor has the edge because she plays the guitar. I give her high points for that.' dragging Katy's guitar playing, lmao
She looked flawless in everything y'all have mentioned though
The RED era style, that's when she looked her worst. The grandma outfits, red lips, clown face and flipped in bangs atrocious. Nothing she has worn lately comes close to how bad she looked back then
