No, asylum was easily the best season. Loved it from the very first episode (along with MH). Coven had me hooked for the first half, then the last half confused me and it had little quality or substance.
FS was the opposite, I've only started liking it halfway through
I want a season I love the entirety of though

Asylum was the only full-rounded story, but that doesn't make it the best. Coven was about to be the best if it wasn't for the finale.

Everyone pays Murder House dust like it didn't son all these bitches. Smh...
Coven was entertaining enough to excuse the lousy story telling. Freakshow has had some truly great moments, but the pacing is just too damn slow.

I've enjoyed all four seasons but I do have to crown Asylum as my favorite.
1. Asylum- was a mind f*** from start to finish
2. Murder House - everything was new and unexpected.
3. Coven - Marie Laveaux made the season.
4. Freak Show- I'm sure this will rank higher in the end, still waiting for Elsa's revenge. I always wondered what Peppers story was, I'm glad it was disclosed in freak show. Made me kinda teary eyed. Dandy makes me moist. I really wish they would have chosen Dylan McDermot to play the guy with the 13" rooster.

Just re watched coven, and I must say that overall it IS really good. Everyone, myself included, always ***** on it, but I honestly think the storyline is really good. Just the fact that sometimes there were strange tangents. Also, how they ****ed over misty at the end sucked. And how Zoe's "hell" was breaking up. That's pathetic, it's like they were trolling.
And Kyle's entire "storyline" was wasted and became ridiculous. I get that they were trying to make it a strong female cast, but then what was the purpose of having him at all? For a cheesy love story with Zoe? That was pathetic, but besides that, and song strange random oddities (queenie trying to seduce the Minotaur), it was an excellent story imo. I still like A and MH more, but C and FS are a little more equal to me now.
The thing with FS is that the plot line isn't vad, but the characters all suck! All returning characters had incredibly complex and well thought out characters in past season(s), and everyone (except Sara maybe) got screwed over with their FS characters. Kathy bates and Angela especially. Their characters in C were amazing, and the progression from C to FS with the boring characters they were is an injustice

This season is good. Love the back-story on each character, especially Pepper (made me appreciate Assylum even more). And we got Matt Bomer & NPH 
I think some people hate this season is because Jessica's role wasn't strong enough (or maybe it's because she's done the same thing for 4 seasons?). The only standout so far is Dandy (and maybe the Clown, but overrated af)

Spill that tea. I recently rewatched it too and I love it. Those things you mentioned were the main weaknesses (I'd add the very ending which I wasn't too fond of). In my dreams queen Misty somehow managed to get out of there  . The FS critique is mostly true too, although Desiree has been getting better lately, I hope she'll be more prominent throughout the remaining episodes.

You're right, she has been getting better, but don't you think it's just because she's becoming a clone of Marie in the way she acts? The. Character itself is weird and boring, and it's only gettung better because of the sasiness and attitude reminiscent of Marie.
As for Coven, yeah, the ending was weak. Well, pretty weak anyway. I think I like where the mother daughter relationship ended up, and I liked LaLaurie's and Marie's unfortunate ending. I like that Cordelia was the supreme, it made sense, but it was also obvious. You know, I feel like endings are never the strong point in AHS. Even in asylum I believe they could have done it more justice (though I'm quite fond of where the characters ended up honestly).

Really EVERY character is like that, you're just narrowing on the few gay characters. I wouldn't look too far into it.

I liked Asylum a lot, its probably my favorite.
I think Coven was great, it just got dull towards the end.

Emma and Sarah are playing leads in another shows next year ... Jessica is probably leaving too
so i hope Frances Conroy will get to play female lead, she is amazing, she played all her 4 characters absolutely amazing and she deserves it

She might show up in a vision, hopefully. But she might only be in one more episode. Frances was only in 9 in Coven, even though she was credited as being in 10 because a stand-in was there for her when Myrtle was buried under mud and Misty watered her.
Frances is always getting snubbed one way or another, and it ain't cute.
