i agree. Ceremonials was based off of Cosmic Love (that huge, choir-y sound) and HBHBHB seems inspired by grungier, rockier tracks like KWAF, GWOE, and DS.
i guess my complaint is that there's nothing unique about this music. it still has quality to it, a lot actually; but Lungs and Ceremonials were unique and beautiful, and HBHBHB seems, so far, very...alternative rock. typical.
FATM were unique because they had such a distinct sound: the percussion they used, the harp, the keyboards. and now, all of that is gone, and it's very similar to what a lot of other alt rock bands are doing right now. ya know?
again, the music is still great, but it's not unique. i feel like it's so hard to top the first two albums.
