It's not
always a poor argument. Some songs don't start to gain significant traction on radio until months after they're sent for adds.
In this case it doesn't make as much sense because it's already getting pretty significant airplay because radio is hungry for anything Adele, so whether its adds date is yet to come shouldn't have any bearing on how it's selling (though it's not selling terribly; it's only number 49 in overall audience and still higher on iTunes than any of the songs that surround it on the airplay chart).
But dd I remember when Style was wallowing in the low 20s on iTunes and nearing the top ten on airplay before its adds date and the Swifties were still acting like it would magically rebound once its adds date came. "IT'S STILL GOING TO GO NUMBER ONE, JUST YOU WAIT," they insisted.
