I really think people are starting to overrate 4. Yes, its her most cohesive era and it vocally *****. BUT at no point does it **** on the rest of her discography. IASF has better individual tracks and is more diverse in sound. B'Day ***** from start to finish without any Start Over-esque tracks.

Lets be real, I skip over RDY, SO & LUUM damn near every full listen. They're good tracks but had they been replaced with D4U & SL then we'd have an 80 on metacritic. Which brings to this FACT, just because the metacritic score is the best doesn't make it her best album at all.

And my last point, 4 was a holdover album for us fans. Bey's pregnancy was planned (IMO) but she wanted to do something for the fans so we wouldn't lose hope. We all know EOT wouldn't have pulled an Irreplaceable and she didn't want it to. It was so obvious how the entire era was played out, the singles, Roseland, Glastonbury, ANWB, her making another full-out R&B album...and to add it makes alot of sense to make a complete R&B when you may be stepping away from the genre more than you usually would.

I agree with some of your points, some I don't.
Lay Up Under Me was Beyonce trying her hand at fully producing a song and it didn't work.
Rather Die Young is a beautiful song and it serves it's purpose well on the album.
It's like a mirror of Love on Top if you look at it musically.
Not really a mirror but like a fraternal twin if that makes sense.
Start Over is... start over. She was clearly looking for a ballad to fill the space because she was preggo.
Which leads me to the fact that she was pregnant and she wanted to hold the fans over with music.
And the fact that she wanted to look back and feel emotional about her pregnancy and bask in that.
Run The World, End of Time, and Countdown stick out like sore thumbs in comparison to the rest of the album and had she not been pregnant, we probably would have gotten an album full of those type of songs, along with Schoolin' Life. Party is a contender because it's the first song she recorded for 4.
She spilled the tea even more in Billboard magazine when she said she had an entirely different concept in mind for the album.
I'm extremely pleased with this era musically, and it brought Bey joy so I can't really complain on that front.
Plus the fact that she had just let go of her dad as a manager and she was basically making all of the decisions herself is just another heapload into why 4 didn't fully work in terms of sales and success.
Not to say that she isn't a brilliant business woman, because she is.
There's absolutely no doubt about that.
Thankfully, she's the type of person to learn from her mistakes and grow, so there's room for improvement the next go round and I'm sure we'll get that with this next album.

I'll say this...
While I'm a fan of Bey's growls that raspy thing that she's doing has gotta GEAUX.
Her growls are beautiful but the raspy thing she's trying to do to her voice sounds so ugly.
Especially when she has such a clear and crisp tone.
She doesn't need to add rasp and grittiness to her belts because that takes away from that beautiful clarity that her tone naturally has.
I loooooooooooove when she growls though. It's like she puts and UMPH on the songs and an emphasis.
The rasp doesn't have the same effect.

I don't. I equate rasp with strain.
A growl is something totally different and employs using your full voice.
I think it's cute that she can apply a rasp to certain phrases, but it diminishes the quality of her voice because she's not a rugged type of singer.

We were getting an album full of hip hop beats.....BANGING TRACKS!!!

A producer promised us that the album would be a club banger, and that Beyonce is on a WHOLE new different lane.
That's why we had all the revolution theme with RTW and that [B]badasss RTW trailer/teaser.[/B

And then we get the RTW trailer, NO epic effects or any revolution theme, and a soft generic ballad, BTINH after? We get the album and its all love ballads and nothing so revolutionary. RTW stood out like a sore thumb,,,,,

Because she found out she was pregnant and the whole project was scrapped. It was rushed and all.....

I'm listening to Daddy right now.

I've never really listened to the whole thing (and paid attention to the lyrics). I wonder if Beyonce still feels this way about her father, and if they are close at all. I know that since he doesn't mange her it's to be expected that we wouldn't see her around him like with Tina, but there hasn't been one picture of them since the split, no?
