Um, during the entire lead-up to this song's release all of the Shakira and Rih stans were saying that it'd hit #1 based on name alone... if Shakira and Rihanna were really as big as their stans claim then the song should have had no problem hitting #1 in a couple of hours, max.
The song just isn't doing it for people.

In my prayers, I didn't want this song to reach the top right away. I'm not here for a song that will spend 2 days on top then sink into oblivion. What kind of mess tbh? It happened to so many pop gurls last year. I won't name anybody.

Yes, but that's not what anybody would want, obviously. But you can have songs that hit #1 status very quickly and also have longevity. I mean just look at Dark Horse. People like the song, that's why it shot to #1 so quickly. People don't like Can't Remember To Forget You as much, otherwise not only would it be #1 right now, but it'd have quite a lead over the #2 song as well.

Rihanna and Shakira are both like Phoenix's if you will, when it comes to their iTunes positions. They both have slow build up, but instead of charging to the #1 position like a Rogue Rhino only to be tranquilized and fall drastically, this will have longevity.
It's a Rock/Reggae pop song for christ sake. But at least someone is getting some sort of success and allowed to experiment with the rock n' roll genre lately.

I mean this is Shakira where talking about, she doesn't exactly have the best track record in the US. This song will do ok WW but it won't do much in the US.

You do realise that anyone who even remotely comes for Ke$ha and her lack of creative freedom just looks incredibly pressed, desperate and sad, right? Obviously I hit a nerve.
Each song is different, you can't just go on past iTunes positions as an indicator of what this song will do, otherwise Applause would have hit #1. Perhaps it is a slow grower and it will hit #1, or perhaps by the time that it has enough exposure people will realise that the song really isn't all that great and won't buy it and it'll peak at #11, or at best in the lower portion of the Top 10.

I can't speak for Shakira, but Rihanna has ALWAYS been a slow climber on iTunes. A #1 on iTunes can come and go with the quickness. When it comes to what counts - Billboard - slow and steady wins the race. And if you know anything about most of the Navy, we are one slow bunch.

I was saying that nobody would want a song to hit #1 and then freefall down the charts, like you said you wouldn't want. But I was saying that just because a song hits #1 quickly, doesn't necessarily mean it will fall just as quick as it climbed.
