How do albums sometimes end up with one song that is so much better and more sophisticated than everything else on the album? Do they spend all of their time on that one song?

"Not a Bad Thing" is such a catchy, effortless little pop song, mess at it being a payola hit Very poor sales and streaming for such high airplay. Has it sold over 1m yet?
LA Times Critics Picks -- things to watch this week:
Quote:
Maleficent
In re-imagining the infamous evil queen who curses an innocent girl, "Maleficent" is very much a cautionary tale for modern times. It essentially begs the question — are you sure it was the shrew that needed taming? It stars a wickedly good Angelina Jolie as the legendary Maleficent. In her hands, the queen is endlessly fascinating and worlds away from the fairy tale staple that so many generations have been introduced to via Disney's animated "Sleeping Beauty" (1959). The new film's position is clear and uncompromising on the question of who was in the wrong. (Betsy Sharkey)
The obliviousness of it all is the punchline. "Maleficent" was successful because of Disney, not
because of Angelina Jolie and her horrible acting, not to mention the horrible, critically-panned story.
Conversely, "Gravity" was successful because of the original story and incredible acting.
Well, turns out my 1 billion dollar gross prediction (although my last prediction stood at 650-750M) for Maleficent might be not that far off. In fact, we'd already have the billion had Lana (biggest flop of 2014) not done the soundtrack.
I know Umbrella, Local Ladies, Global Romance, WFL, Firework (tho BTW had more votes than Firework in Best Female Video so Firework only won because BTW wasn't nominated for VOTY) are VOTY. Forgot who won 2013 tho
