It sounds too dated to me. The synths, particularly that arp synth that plays around 1:40 is so late 90s/early 2000s it just sounds disgusting by modern dance music standards. I like the part from around 4:40 to 5:05 though.

I've never liked miley b4, but I must admit she's been changing to a different direction with The Climb and PITUSA..Miley and Taylor are frens..after all.
Lots of songs that have a huge first week have a sub-par 8th day update e.g. Womanizer, 3, Bad Romance, I Can Transform Ya etc. and all of those have bounced back so I assume this will to.

I'm pretty sure this won't smash radios big, it's doin' amazing right now but this slow down today, even though it's logical after all the big updates, is the first sign IMO.
It's not that radio friendly, it just ain't first single material [Actually, it's not single material at all, good album track and that's it IMHO]...I said it already and I'll say it again, this will probably be big just cuz' it's a Rihanna.
Big first week sales will shoot it to the top of BB Hot 100 or at least Top 3 and I'll be happy for her but this is def' not the mind blowing first single she should have put out there.

I don't think the update is a sign of anything since every song with HUGE takeoffs have a declined update on the 8th day....but I agree that it won't be the mind blowing first single. I don't think Def Jam planned for it to be though, it seems like they planned to release "Wait Your Turn" this month anyway since they shot the video even before they shot the RR video.
Btw, this debuted at #100 on the Hot 100 this week.
