NO.75

Robin Thicke

Number of plays: 44
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 1

There's our first Top 75 Artist of 2013, Robin Thicke! He makes it in at the last position, thanks to his big hit which I do not need to name. Well I ain't into this guy, so it's a good feat that he makes it just based on one song. Be sure to look out where his song lands on the Top 100 Singles!

NO.74

Foster the People

Number of plays: 44
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 0

Despite not releasing anything new this year and having no singles too, Foster the People still manages to make it onto the Top 75 Artists chart, thanks to their amazing 2011 album, Torches, which I still listen to occasionally. I just can't wait for their new material in January!

NO.73

Mumford & Sons

Number of plays: 44
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 1

Again, I don't really use Mumford & Sons too, but well they made it here despite Babel being released last year. So good for them.

NO.72

Swedish House Mafia

Number of plays: 45
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 1

Well let's just say I only use one of their songs. But yay for them too!

NO.71

Daft Punk

Number of plays: 45
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 1

Well. Don't kill me but I find Get Lucky so damn overrated, it's like the top of so many year-end lists of many publications. Or maybe cos it got played so damn many times on the radio. Or maybe it's just me. Oh well.

NO.65

Grouplove

Number of plays: 57
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 1

Get in ya'll indie fans! This year they released a new album, Spreading Rumours, but yet I am still not over the masterpiece they had - Tongue Tied. That joyful rush the song brings just makes this song sound like a relentless classic, if it did smash.

NO.64

Carly Rae Jepsen

Number of plays: 57
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 0

2012 It-Girl slips in at no.64. 2013 sadly hasn't matched up even a bit to the immense success she had the last year. She released Tonight I'm Getting Over You, remixed it, yet it failed to make an impact. Furthermore she unleashed that atrocious Coke song which was just cheesy as hell and so not good.

NO.63

Jay-Z

Number of plays: 58
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 2

And there is Mr. Carter. This year he released Magna Carta... Holy Grail in what seemed like a surprise release back then (before Mrs. Carter came around and took that up several notches). Though it wasn't my cup of tea, Holy Grail is a huge bop for me.

Note: Just a little heads up on Beyoncé though, she did not make my Top 75 Artists countdown as the cut-off was a week ago. At that moment she ranked at no.102. However, with the release of BEYONCÉ and my subsequent wh*ring of the album, she is now at no.53 currently and she will most definitely keep rising. But she will not be reflected in this chart. Sorry about that.

NO.62

Coldplay

Number of plays: 58
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 1

Their last album was released two years ago, but this year they came out with an amazing song for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire soundtrack (second to Taylor's contributions for the first film of course
). So yep, do check out where their only entry lands in the Top 100 Singles.
NO.61

Capital Cities

Number of plays: 60
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 1

These guys are here pretty much solely based on their massive hit, Safe and Sound. I wish I could check them out more but I'm a little too bothered too.

NO.60

Glee Cast

Number of plays: 61
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 0
Position in 2012: 8

Glee oh, Glee. Season 4 was a decline definitely, from the glorious seasons of 2 and 3. That's why it's position this year plummets by 52 spots. Season 5 hasn't really been picking up either (except for one particular season). But oh well, I just wish I could relive those 2 seasons. They were just simply the best.

NO.59

Ed Sheeran

Number of plays: 61
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 2
Position in 2012: 33

Affectionately known as the Hobbit by some turds, Ed clocks in right within the top 60 after an eventful year he has had. Touring with Taylor, releasing Everything Has Changed, fondling with Ellie Goulding at the VMAs and of course the mind-boggling nomination at the Grammys. People like to call him bland, which I don't know what they're talking about. Like, have you seen this guy on a guitar before? The things he could do with it is just amazing. Plus he's a folky-rapper which is really cool.

NO.58

Eminem

Number of plays: 64
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 2
Position in 2012: NA

Slim Shady makes a return to the Top Artists countdown, especially after releasing his eight album, The Marshall Mathers LP 2. The Monster is amazing too.

NO.57

Calvin Harris

Number of plays: 69
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 1
Position in 2012: 11

Genius DJ Calvin Harris lands at number 57, after (almost) slaying last year at number 11. Though he only has one entry this year, I guess the plays are mainly due to his huge hits last year like Feel So Close and Let's Go.

NO.56

You Me At Six

Number of plays: 76
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 0
Position in 2012: NA

Alternative/punkrock band You Me At Six settles at 56, mainly due to their singles Reckless from their last album, and Lived a Lie from their latest yet-to-be released effort. Sadly none of them made the Top 100 Singles.

NO.45

Anna Kendrick

Number of plays: 90
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 1

Anna Kendrick the Gorgeous the actress who has no intention to delve into music actually makes it into my Top Artists countdown. Considering that she only has one song, and she clocks in here with 90 plays, I guess you know what that means...

NO.44

Cher Lloyd

Number of plays: 92
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 0
Position in 2012: 39

Tbh I use to think she was really annoying but then I realised how hot she was and she's been slightly more awesome to me. How she made it this high I don't know, because she doesn't have a single entry in the Top 100 Countdown.

NO.43

Christina Aguilera

Number of plays: 94
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 1
Position in 2012: 17

Featured Artist of the Decade lands at 43 this year after moderately slaying last year at 17. To be honest I think she's on the rise back up again. Say Something is doing so well and this time she isn't so readily dismissed from the song unlike Moves Like Jagger. Furthermore, We Remain is her best song in ages so I hope she finally found the right track. With the right music, she could smash like it's 1999.

NO.42

The Script

Number of plays: 102
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 1
Position in 2012: 46

I believe they are the first artist that has an increase in position since last year (other than those who did not chart last year). Despite copying Beyonce's album title, adding a # to it, having a will.i.am song as its lead single and having the album get panned critically, the subsequent singles that they chose were reasonable, hence why they are still charting this year.

NO.41

Two Door Cinema Club

Number of plays: 103
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 1
Position in 2012: 42

These guys mainly just released a new song and I guess I was still listening to Beacon a little at the start of the year. Well it's a good album, it's very dancy.

NO.40
Maroon 5
Number of plays: 105
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 2
Position in 2012: 34
Well, I guess these guys released a few nice singles this year, compared to that overrated Payphone. And what baffles me is their crazy radio support. I just wish they didn't go so straight out pop though.

NO.39

Lawson

Number of plays: 110
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 1
Position in 2012: 36

Lawson pretty much holds steady at their position from last year. This year they re-released their album featuring crap songs like Brokenhearted and Juliet. Why can't they just do songs like When She Was Mine etc?

NO.38

Kings of Leon

Number of plays: 124
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 1
Position in 2012: NA

What I love about this band is that signature nostalgic sound in their guitars which puts me in such a dreamy state. Mechanical Bull was cool too.

NO.37

OneRepublic

Number of plays: 129
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 2
Position in 2012: NA

I'm so glad Counting Stars is just smashing effortlessly now. It's funny how I keep thinking they're over and then they smash all of a sudden. Like for Waking Up, All The Right Moves and Secrets pretty much did nothing and all of a sudden Good Life smashed so hard. Then Feel Again and If I Lose Myself failed to smash too (as much as I wish they did) but then Counting Stars did it again.

NO.36

All Time Low

Number of plays: 130
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 2
Position in 2012: 29

And that makes 7 bands charting in a row (the next artist is a band too!). Don't Panic is such a good album and some of the songs in the re-release too (I've not listened to all of it yet).

NO.30
Lana Del Rey
Number of plays: 190
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 1
Position in 2012: 2
Welp. Last year's runner-up has fallen 28 positions, landing right in the top 30. I guess because Paradise was sort of underwhelming for me, compared to the legendary Born to Die. And I did not use the Summertime Sadness remix at all.

NO.29

Kanye West

Number of plays: 190
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 0
Position in 2012: NA

Yeezy returned this year releasing Yeezus with no lead single etc. Though it's a good album, it has poor replay value to me. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy remains his best. Oh and I Am a God literally gives me nightmares. And On Sight hurts my brain. But they are still somewhat cool songs, just not something I wanna listen to over and over.

NO.28

Of Monsters and Men

Number of plays: 195
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 2
Position in 2012: NA

Icelandic indie folk rockers finally makes it onto Top Artists countdown, after slaying last year with Little Talks. Their singles sound pretty much like smash singles, though 2 of them were released way before I found them hence it was weird for me to insert them into my weekly charts and hence my Top Singles countdown. And apparently Dirty Paws was released to pop radio? But it didn't catch on I guess? I wish it did, it's probably their best song.

NO.27

Avril Lavigne

Number of plays: 203
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 1
Position in 2012: 26

Mrs. Kroeger drops a spot from last year, despite releasing new singles and a new album. Why? Because this album is crap. I don't know how it got better reviews than Goodbye Lullaby, but it's so much worse! I'll reserve my comments for the album for my Underwhelming Albums list if I decide to do that.

EDIT: Well I decided not to do an Underwhelming Albums list, but know that if I do it'll top it. But what I wanted to say is that some songs are just ugh. Like Bad Girl and Hello Kitty, what??? The ballads pale in comparison to Goodbye Lullaby's ones, like Remember When and Wish You Were Here. Rock N Roll is just, sigh.

NO.26

Passion Pit

Number of plays: 220
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 3
Position in 2012: NA

These guys are (sort of) slaying this year I guess, with 3 singles in my Top 100. Gossamer is a huge bop and the singles they released are so good.

NO.25

Panic! at the Disco

Number of plays: 220
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 2
Position in 2012: NA

Or for now you could call them the Brendon Urie solo project. Like, all their videos only feature him and Spencer's missing (is he still?). But not that it's bad, their music is still amazing. I can only wish they returned to their baroque stuff which was their signature sound. But still their latest album is quite a treat.

NO.24

CHVRCHES

Number of plays: 224
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 1
Position in 2012: NA

Their debut album slayed me. It's just so good, Lauren Mayberry is so good, this whole band is so good (I only don't care for the guy's songs tho).

NO.23

Britney Spears

Number of plays: 227
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 1
Position in 2012: 25

GET AWAY FROM WILL.I.AM NOW! Like seriously, Britney Jean is SO bad and you still have the cheek to call it your most personal album I'm like WHUT. I mean, some songs like Perfume and Passenger are really really good and makes me miss old Britney a lot, but the rest, I'm just like, what were you thinking, what was will thinking, why? Ok I better stop ranting about this before some people come after me.

NO.22

Bruno Mars

Number of plays: 239
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 3
Position in 2012: 45

So Bruno released a pretty good album at the end of last year. I liked that he was trying to bring back the retro vibes and stuff and yeah that was cool. But after a while I feel like it's enough. Maybe it's just me, but I just wished he didn't kept doing that. Nevertheless, the songs are huge bops.

NO.21 Ellie Goulding
Number of plays: 279
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 2
Position in 2012: 16
So she re-released her album Halcyon this year, moving once again away from her initial indie/pop/folk sound and more to EDM. Can't say that it's bad, but it's not as good as Halcyon.  |

NO.20
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
Number of plays: 289
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 3
Position in 2012: NA
Probably the biggest new artist this year, they slayed everyone with their singles over and over. What's really cool about them is the mix of indie and unconventional production that is matched together with hip-hop. It's fresh and interesting.

NO.19

The Civil Wars

Number of plays: 291
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 2
Position in 2012: NA

Whenever I think of them, I feel sad. They make such amazing music, their voices go so well together, but now they've broken up/gone on hiatus. The fact that they're not even on speaking terms just upsets me. It's just sad for two people with such amazing artistry and stage chemistry to end up like this. I just hope they eventually fix their differences even if they don't return to music.

NO.18

Katy Perry

Number of plays: 321
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 1
Position in 2012: 21

Enough of sad stuff, Ms. Perry (or soon to be Mrs. Mayer maybe) released a new album this year. I've never been a fan of her, but her singles are just such bops so I can't help but listen to them. However for the album, well it just fell flat for me. It's wasn't bad, yet it wasn't good. Sure it had it's moments, but other than that it pretty much did nothing for me.

NO.17

Rihanna

Number of plays: 321
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 1
Position in 2012: 5

For the first time, Black Madonna has not released a new album. It's good though in a more business sense, because I think she might get overexposed if she kept this up, though this doesn't seem very true as The Monster is smashing. This just fuels people's desire for new music, so I guess she's (or her management is) playing their cards right.

NO.16

Hunter Hayes

Number of plays: 332
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 2
Position in 2012: NA

This guy is just different from other male country artists, who I don't use at all. Maybe he's young, maybe he's cute, maybe he doesn't really have that darn annoying deep twangy voice that most male country artists have, or maybe because he's just a darn good musician.

NO.15

Skylar Grey

Number of plays: 353
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 3
Position in 2012: NA

After 2 years, after 2 singles that never made the album, Skylar Grey finally released her second (or first under her stage name) album. And she delivered after teasing us for so long. I really love her hip-hop infused pop.

NO.14

Ariana Grande

Number of plays: 355
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 3
Position in 2012: NA

Thank god Ariana doesn't sound as annoying as Cat in Victorious/Sam & Cat! She sings like an angel. Who cares about the Mariah comparisons, when you have a voice like that nothing else should matter anyway.

NO.13

Miley Cyrus

Number of plays: 355
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 2
Position in 2012: NA

Miley, Miley, Miley. Though she returned this year skankier than ever, you can't deny that her songs are just ultimate bops. Even those un-skanky songs are just flawless. Keep up making such amazing pop music and you'll be fine by me.

NO.12

Imagine Dragons

Number of plays: 369
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 2
Position in 2012: 22

Probably the most talked about band this year. After finding them out last year, they slayed this year with such immense success. I love their electronic-infused rock and arena rock sound. And I can't believe it was Alex Da Kid who did all these, because I thought he was a hip-hop producer.

NO.11

Lorde

Number of plays: 371
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 1
Position in 2012: NA

Yep, the girl who's just months younger than me almost makes the top 10 artists of 2013, but sadly she shall settle just outside of it. Let me just say that Pure Heroine is literally pure perfection. It's like you take Lana Del Rey add remove the old daddy loving theme and replace it with the adolescent spirit and you get Lorde. Not saying Lana is worse than Lorde (in fact Lana>>>), but Lorde's music feels a lot more relatable in this sense.

NO.10

Ke$ha

Number of plays: 420
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 2
Position in 2012: 15

Kicking off the top 10 is Ke$ha, who didn't really have much of a good year. Why? Because she decided to collaborate with will.i.am. Okay besides my random will hating, Warrior is such an amazing album (and it came in second in my Top 10 Albums last year).

NO.9

Selena Gomez

Number of plays: 443
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 2
Position in 2012: 37 (as Selena Gomez & The Scene)

Alright so she's a huge guilty pleasure of mine. I mean, she's not as talented as everyone else, but her songs can really be huge catchy bops and actually I didn't realise I listened to her this much this year.

NO.8

Sara Bareilles

Number of plays: 516
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 1
Position in 2012: NA

Sara came back this year with a stunning new album and an amazing new single that
went number oneis still charting even after 8 months. I'm waiting for your mashup with Katy at the Grammys!

NO.7

Vampire Weekend

Number of plays: 543
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 3
Position in 2012: NA

These guys too, after 4 years they're finally back with their best album yet (in my opinion). Ezra Koenig's voice is just so out of this world, it almost feels like an alien, but one who can sing (or maybe I'm listening to Ya Hey a little too much).

NO.6

Lady Gaga

Number of plays: 602
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 2
Position in 2012: 6

I'm a little disappointed with her position this year, I mean she didn't move at all since last year despite her doing much more things this year. Did I not listen to ARTPOP enough? Besides that, I know Gaga's been getting much bad press lately and that sucks, but who cares? Those people have no good tastes anyway. (Release Do What U Want feat. Christina Aguilera please!)

NO.5

Fall Out Boy

Number of plays: 605
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 3
Position in 2012: NA

After 5 years. After 5 long years, we have finally survived the FOB hiatus. Who cares if they've gone more pop this time round? They sound amazing, they look amazing (god dammit Patrick!) and their music is still amazing. (Please collaborate with Taytay?)

NO.4

Demi Lovato

Number of plays: 651
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 2
Position in 2012: 14

Well, I'm pretty surprised she made it this high, considering that Demi was at most a mediocre album. I didn't realise how much I bopped to some of the tracks it I guess. When Unbroken came out, I started to really really like her cos I found out her voice is phenomenal and her ballads are just crazy good. Nowadays I feel like as if I haven't heard her vocals as good as when she sung Skyscraper. I'll talk more about Demi in my Top 20 Albums countdown.

NO.3

Tegan and Sara

Number of plays: 1265
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 3
Position in 2012: NA

The good sis Anna must be squealing now! Kicking off the top 3 are twin sisters Tegan and Sara, with almost double the plays Demi Lovato had. I found out about them in fact almost a year ago, when I heard Closer. Eh, it was an okay song. Something then told me to go listen to their album when it came out, so I did, and was sort of impressed. Then half a year later I met Anna on here and she got me to listen to old Tegan and Sara stuff and dammit, from that day on I was hooked. Heartthrob grew onto me, so did their old albums. So, thank god Anna introduced them to me!

NO.2

Paramore

Number of plays: 1737
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 2
Position in 2012: 3

After almost 4 years, with 3 members, 2 leaving, and 1 amazing album, Paramore concludes 2013 at the runner-up position. They've been my favourite band so it's right that they end up in the second spot. I don't know what else I could say about them, their music is just flawless and Hayley's vocals are just flawless. There's nothing more you could ask for in a pop/alternative band.

AND THE NUMBER ONE GOES TO...

NO.1

Taylor Swift

Number of plays: 4199
Number of entries on Top 100 Singles: 4
Position in 2012: 1

I mean like, DUH. If you actually expected someone else... well that's just not right. I guess there's not much point in talking about how much I lover her or why she's amazing here so lemme just say something. She's been getting so much bad press this year and it kinda makes me sad and mad that people can be so dumb to believe whatever they see on the net or even tweets by some dumb immature fans in other fanbases. Lemme list some of the common remarks: She's a ****, she only writes breakup songs, she only writes about boys, she dates too much, she dates just to make songs, she's the problem, she's annoying, she ****-shames, she disses people, she shades yada yada yada. It's so pointless at this moment to try to correct these, can't change an idiot overnight. Oh well. Whoops said too much.

) and his attitude is annoying. But it's undeniable that this dude can make music. Good, innovative and interesting music. This album is like a ride through his maniacal mind. It's dark and scary. Like a roller coaster in the dark, it's full of surprises, twists and turns and mystery. It's interesting to listen to for the first few times, but it soon grows old, just like if you take a roller coaster too many times you get sick of it (or maybe that analogy only applies for me). Probably cuz this album rides on the shock factor, so after a while it obviously doesn't shock anymore. But I must say this is a good thing for me, cuz after not listening to it for some time I'm starting to re-appreciate the album. #19
Same Trailer Different Park Kacey Musgraves
2012: Push and Shove - No Doubt
The Lana Del Rey of Country music (sorry if that comparison was ridiculous idk she gives me that vibe). I've constantly seen her name throughout 2013, especially in Taylor's base over here. But I didn't really went to go look up on her until much later in the year when I saw that she was getting quite some acclaim in ATRL. And I must say this is pretty enjoyable even though I'm not into the country genre at all. Her writing is pretty superb and the songs are really light music-wise, which is refreshing for me.| Highs Merry Go 'Round

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)
Various Artists
2012: Crazy World - Boys Like Girls
I'd say that this is better than the first soundtrack (even though the previous one had 2 Taylor tracks). Maybe they've recruited more mainstream artists. Or maybe cuz the sound is less of the folksy Appalachian stuff cuz it gets a little boring for me. This album is more like Capitol music. Songs like the ones by Lorde, Imagine Dragons and Sia make you feel like you're in the arena, in that moment when the timer goes off and everyone runs and kills everyone. Overall the sound is just so much bigger which is probably why I liked it more.| Highs Silhouettes (Of Monsters and Men)

Yours Truly Ariana Grande
2012: Southern Air - Yellowcard
After The Way blew me away, I was really excited for the album. But then Baby I made me think that the album would probably consist of similar tracks over and over. And that is kinda true, as pretty much all the tracks are dependent on throwback sound and they somewhat have the same formula. But regardless it's a pretty good album, cuz who can actually get enough of that sound? It doesn't matter if the whole album relies on that vibe, it still brings about a good vibe that is very very enjoyable. She's just making some damn good and fun pop music. Her vocal talent is just insane too, something that is very much unseen in these days.| Highs Honeymoon Avenue

Bangerz Miley Cyrus
2012: Don't Panic - All Time Low
So Miley returned with an album that was surprisingly less ratchet and crazy than what I expected (just like We Can't Stop). There is a surprising number of ballads. And these ballads aren't just generic, typical ballads that artists throw in to balance the album out. They are quality ballads with real raw emotions, something that you wouldn't think you'd hear from an album titled Bangerz. Other than the ballads, there is a fair share of crazy in the album. Though people may shake their heads at these, I find them very enjoyable, a form of release. Like, what is better than rapping "bang bitch, ya think I'm strange bitch, it's bananas like a ****ing rangatang bitch". (As nonsensical that is it's cool idk why it's just cool.)| Highs We Can't Stop

Don't Look Down Skylar Grey
2012: My Head Is An Animal - Of Monsters and Men
After changing her stage name from Holly Brook, collaborating with tons of artists, releasing her first single years ago and then shelving Invinsible altogether, Skylar finally released her debut major label album after so so so so long. While the lead single shocked us a little, the album is a step in the right direction. The album is full of catchy poppy hooks, hip-hop influences, and her signature angsty emotional songs. However there are also a ton of okay songs, like Pulse, Sunshine, Glow In The Dark, Clear Blue Sky. But it's still a good album.| Highs Religion

Reflektor Arcade Fire
2012: Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded - Nicki Minaj
I discovered this album 1 day before the end of 2013 and it already makes it into the top 20. I've never listened to Arcade Fire before (except for Abraham's Daughter which I happened to hear cuz of The Hunger Games). I always thought they made indie rock/folk or something that I wouldn't be really interested in. I even didn't really like the lead single when I heard it the first time. But I listened to Afterlife and it wasn't too bad. So I gave the album a try, and I did not regret it. The songs are so bloody long, but I don't care. They're long not cuz they're repetitive (like JT). I could dance to this album for ages. It's just so dancy, something that I wasn't expecting at all. The album is still very fresh in my mind so I don't really know which are the best and worst songs.| Highs Reflektor

Too Weird to Live, Too Rare to Die! Panic! at the Disco
2012: Unorthodox Jukebox - Bruno Mars
This album is a greater turn away from their usual baroque and alternative rock sound, and moves towards more pop and electronic. Despite this, this is a really tight and enjoyable album. The production is top-notch, with each beat and each synth grabbing your attention. the last member of the illuminati trinityBeyoncé just dropped her album weeks before the year ended without a single notice. About the album, this is a much different Beyoncé, she's more fierce and fearless and dirty, something past Sasha Fierce's level. It's not typical pop stuff that Bey used to do, so it makes things much more interesting to listen to. She's just never been any more assertive and provocative and it works. The saying is true, that it's a Beyoncé's world and we're all just living in it. #11

These girls just miss the top 10 albums of 2013. Firstly, the idea of three sisters in a band, that is just so amazing for me. Their music just serves me so much realness from Michael Jackson to Shania Twain. There's so much sass, so much playfulness and so much heart.| Highs Falling

Kicking of the top 10 are a band I discovered together with HAIM cos they were on the Laneway Festival setlist. The synths are so addictive and sinful, paired with Lauren Mayberry's sweet vocals on top, the songs are just perfect. Save Rock and Roll Fall Out Boy
2012: Halcyon - Ellie Goulding
The long long long awaited comeback of Fall Out Boy. This album was quite a big part of my life along with another album that was released around the same time, as I listened to it a lot while I was finally settling down in school, and all the school troubles just started hitting me. This album captures enough angst, youthfulness, passion and fun. The title of the album is hilarious cos this album is much more pop than their usual stuff. But then who cares, they are making quality music and they don't need to defined within the rock boundaries. The many collaborations are a nice thing too.| Highs Alone Together

2012: Some Nights - fun.
Probably their last album ever. It's sad cos this album is amazing and they could be making many more amazing records. And they're not even on speaking terms which is sad too (I probably said that before but oh well). The songs are organic and their vocals paired together is orgasmic. These two really have such unmatched vocal ability, not that they can belt for minutes, but it's that masterful restrain in their voice that makes everything so beautiful. There are more instruments than their first album, but each instrument really brings out another dimension and emotion out of the song. The album itself is bittersweet, as there are moments where the content in the song is rather sad and depressing.| Highs Same Old Same Old

2012: El Camino - The Black Keys
This album is a shift from their fun and tribal-like music from Contra, and moves into something more dark. The album art encapsulates the album perfectly: a dark shady twisted world. It's like the music you'd hear in some isolated scary church or something. I don't really know much about the lyrical content cos they're really jam-packed and brimming with meaning. But from what I know, it's pretty cool, like talking about religion etc. Also Ezra's voice is really enchanting.| Highs Step

Pure Heroine Lorde
2012: The Truth About Love - P!nk
Teen hottie Lorde kicks off the top 5 with her highly anticipated debut album (and also the only album in this set that didn't reach no.1). This is such a solid debut album for a girl that's just a few months younger than me. Lyrically, it captures all our teenage thoughts in such a mature and accessible way. Vocally, she's no Whitney, but her voice is kooky and unique enough and it can really put her point across in her lyrics. Production-wise, it's interesting. There's glimpse of electronic and dance music in the album. The production is perfectly crafted. The album could get a little monotonous at times and there are no real standouts or moments that just jump out at you. Not that's it's totally bad, cos it just feels like this is a really solid body of work.| Highs 400 Lux

ARTPOP Lady Gaga
2012: Night Visions - Imagine Dragons
2013 definitely wasn't the year Gaga or any Monster expected. We all expected a huge and bombastic return with tons of commercial success, but what we got were flopping singles and album sales and the backlash of the whole world. While many call this album a disappointment, I find it to maybe be one of her better albums, rivaling The Fame Monster. The production in here is ace. Literally. Listen to it using good earphones/headphones or blast it out using good speakers. Each synth, each crunch of the electronics, each beat just drives the song to such crazy heights. It builds such great momentum for the first half of the album, which is only brought down by the subsequent few tracks (Donatella, Fashion! etc) which is sad. Thankfully it picks back up again with the two heartfelt songs towards the end (which she totally needs to do more), but then Applause as the album closer after the magnificent Gypsy is just wrong. Another problem I find is that, it can get a little tiring after some listens. But I think the production is fresh enough to excite you again.| Highs G.U.Y.

The Blessed Unrest Sara Bareilles
2012: Warrior - Ke$ha
An album that took me by surprised (and surprised me too when I found out it was nominated for Album of the Year at the Grammys). Actually Brave sorta gave us an indication of her move towards more straight out pop, but every sonic experimentation she took on this album really enhances the music, whether is it the emotion or the lyrics etc. The album is mostly melancholic and the way she does it is emotional. One thing missing is her usual sassy edginess (King of Anything, Love Song etc.) but the music is still quality.| Highs 1000 Times

Heartthrob Tegan and Sara
2012: Born to Die - Lana Del Rey
In the runner-up position we have the wonderful twins from Canada whom I had the pleasure of discovering this year. This album is more pop than their usual stuff (50% of the albums in my list have gone "more pop"). Though I would prefer their more pop rock/alternative material (So Jealous, The Con), this indie pop sound suits them pretty well too. The album could get a little too polished, but compared to mainstream radio stuff, and the 80s influence, it really doesn't matter. These songs with such strong pop hooks and melodies, with the duo's sweet voice and emotive songwriting, will definitely stick in your brain effortlessly.| Highs Drove Me Wild

Paramore Paramore
2012: Red - Taylor Swift
AND OF COURSE Paramore rules yet another chart as their self-titled album takes the pole position. So what if they lost the Farros, lost their usual angsty vibe? This album is even more flawless than anything they've ever created. Yes, they're going more pop this time round, but it works! It's not like they're having no guitars and stuff and they're still fundamentally rock. Seriously this album is so perfect imma just talk about how each song is just so orgasmic.
