I just watched the movie and I read the book. I was a bit disappointed with the shallow adaptation of the book. I mean there are very good dimensions tackled in the book that they could have explored in the movie. I feel like the movie only catered to entertain the fans of Twilight or Harry Potter. The maturity of the book did not materialize on the screen. Something is missing in the film.
And the characters were underdeveloped too. The arena scenes were very far from what I imagined. The killings were not even disturbing and I hate how unharmed the characters looked like (i.e. Katniss during the fire, Peeta's legs, etc). There was also no chemistry between J.Lawrence and J.Hutcherson. Liam have good chemistry with Jennifer though. In the book, I was team Peeta but with the film I'd be on Gale's side. Very conflicting.
The first half of the film was nicely done, the second half is a mess. They should change the director on the 2nd installment and have bigger production.
Before even seeing the movie I heard about the Battle Royale comparison and the similarities are really obvious, it's almost 90% Battle Royale: the premise, progression, ending, etc. Note: I never read the book.
Similarities aside the movie is really amazing, it's one of those films that really drags you inside its world and I didn't really notice that it lasted for 2 hours.
The BEST PART of the movie though:
wow, he's grown so BIG since that Disney movie
too bad he's dead
I guess the girls still has Finnick to look forward too plus Johanna for the boys
I'm just praying no idiotic actor will be casted for those two roles...the (apparent trolling) rumors have been cringe-worthy, along the lines of Justin Bieber.
Saw it last night, INCREDIBLE movie. I haven't rooted for a protagonist in a long, looooooong time. I can't wait for the 2nd and 3rd movies. Though I've heard dreadful things about the third book.
